Belgarath The Sorcerer

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am almost positive that the citizens of Tol Honeth, hundreds of leagues to the south, paused in the business of swindling each other to remark, 'What was that?' when the sound of a thousand silver trumpets shattered the air of Rivan throne room. -- Belgarath The Sorcerer by David and Leigh Eddings
This book is the prequel to THE BELGARIAD series which i am sure most fantasy fans should have read and of course eddings fans should have sort of gone through a few times. For those who have not, please try to get your hands on those books. Of cos if you have not read books from eddings before and don't want the trouble of getting all the books from the series, you can either start reading BELGARTH THE SORCERER or POLGARA THE SORCERESS 1st which give you a feel on what eddings style of writing is like.
As usual BELGARATH THE SORCERER is full of humour, adventure and for those who had read THE BELGARIAD, sort of an history lesson. From this book you will find out how does the cranky old man , belgarath met Aldur, the sad story of how Torak a beautiful god cracked the earth and destroyed his looks, the even more depressing story of what happen to the 7 original disciples of Aldur which ended with only 4 left.
Tha fanfare was followed by an inhumanly supressed choir of female voices - a few hundreds or so, I'd imagine - whispering a hymn to the bride.
We will also get to know about Belgarath's wife, how they first met and what wonderful times they had together. There is also story about Beldaran, Polgara's twin sister -- not that they looked alike of anything. And of cos eddings planting a clue here and there where you get answer in the later part of story helps to make you want to reread everything again.
Beldin had studied music for a couple of quier centuries once, and that hymn was very impressive, but eighty-four-part harmony is just a little complicated for my taste
Of course those who have not read his books might be skeptical about what i say. And i have been known to be quite biased at time. But if you like fantasy as much as i do, magics, strange land, gods, adventure and unknown destiny, you must give this book a go and lost yourself in this mystical adventure.
