Some of the movies I liked.
I saw these myself, in the theatre, during their initial release. Some may now be showing on cable TV or in video stores.
First update, about 1996.

  • 32. Alien Resurrection ( Sigourney Weaver )
  • 33. The Rainmaker ( story by John Grisham )
  • 34. Titanic ( Leonardo Di Caprio, Kate Winslett, and a cast of thousands )
While the romantic plot appealed to many teenagers, I found the graphic scenes of destruction to be somewhat of a horror show. I never realized the sea water was sub-zero, and people were frozen like ice-cubes...
I also bought the CD of the soundtrack music. If I remember correctly, one of the several Oscar's this movie won was for the music.
  • 36. Dark City ( oooh, scary )
Every time a see a movie by New Line Cinema, the opening logo reminds me of this film. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
  • 37. Lost in Space ( With the original voice of the robot.)
    "CRUSH, KILL, DESTROY"
    "DANGER WILL ROBINSON, DANGER!"
  • 38. As Good As It Gets ( Jack Nicholson. Is this movie based on the Wizard of Oz ? With Helen Hunt ( Dorothy??) )
  • 39. Primary Colors ( John Travolta ). Based on the book "Primary Colors" written by "Anonymous", this is a simile of the 1992 campaign of William Jefferson Clinton for President.
  • 40. Bulworth. A tragic movie about failure of politics.
  • 41. Mercury Rising ( Bruce Willis ). I like Bruce Willis but this movie is not so good. If the plot appeals to you, check out a movie made in the 1980's, called "The Professional".
  • 42. My Giant ( Billy Crystal ). This is a nice movie.
In recent years there have been a number of small, warm-hearted movies made by comedy actors. Other examples are "Larger Than Life", and "Jack".
  • 43. Fools Rush In.
  • 44. The Wedding Singer.
  • 45. The Big Lebowski. This movie is too weird.
  • 46. The Object of my affection. This movie not so good, sorry.
  • 47. Les Miserables. ( Liam Neeson )
I heard about the stage show and never went to see it. I heard about the book and never read it. This film necessarily cuts down Victor Hugo's classic story, to fit within a movie presentation. The photography is beautiful and the intricate storyline is clear enough so that its not tedious.
The characters represent facets of 19th century political thinking.
  • 48. Amistaad.
( contains scenes of brutal violence )
Set in early U.S. history ( about 1840 ? ) this movie is very scenic, which is something I always look for when paying to see a movie in the theatre. As with all dramatization, one should be skeptical about the accuracy of some details. Some have drawn parallels from this story to the modern anti-abortion campaign.
