What's up, people?? I'm the one we all know and love, Scott
Burks. I am a graduate of North Carolina
State University where I majored in Biological Sciences. Graduation
ceremonies took place on December 17, 1997, which marked the second Bachelor's
Degree obtained in six years. The first was a degree obtained in
Management Information Systems from Ambassador
University in Big Sandy, TX in May of 1995. I am finishing grad school at North
Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University in Greensboro
for a Master's program in Biology.
Now for the personal information: I was born in Brooklyn, NY on September
23, 1973. I am a 6'3", 185-lb, brown-skinned black man trapped in
the South (actually, living in Carolina is not that bad). :) My family
currently resides in Winston-Salem,
NC, which is a pretty nice mid-sized city in the heart of the Piedmont
Triad region of North Carolina.
A lot has changed since I last updated my homepage. First of all,
I am a newly-initiated member of Alpha
Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., which is the first African-American fraternity
established (December 4, 1906 to be exact). I was initiated on March
11, 2001. I was accepted into the PhD program
at the University of Cincinnati in 1999, where I quickly realized a couple of things:
1) I was tired of school and 2) the program just wasn't for me. Grades
were not necessarily the problem (I had a "B" average), I just did not
feel it anymore. I was working as a techincal support specialist
at DBADirect, Inc., a database consulting firm in the greater Cincinnati
area. Due to personal reasons I left DBADirect to teach computer science courses at Southern Ohio College. Talk about a lateral move, eh? Anyhow, though I was thankful for the opportunity, I left there in June 2003 to finish my last year of grad school. I left because I was tired of the status quo, not to mention seeing all of my white co-workers getting promoted ahead of me even though I was there longer than there were -- but that's another story for another time.
All and all, God has pretty much been good to me. Given
the hands I was dealt different times in my life, I'd say I made out okay.
:)
I would like to take the time out and re-advertise a
corporation in which I am an active member: KLOWN,
INC. This organization is one that pretty much stands apart
from others. Once you enter the REALM OF THE PSYCHE, the CREAM OF
THE CRAP, the GREATEST OF ALL TIMES, the TOTAL PACKAGE, you too will have
the urge to "STAND IN THE GAP" and take one in the nads for all mankind.
Well, maybe not ALL mankind, but you get my drift. Also, I would
like to share with you all MY
THEORY ON HOW PRO FOOTBALL CAN INDUCE WORLD
PEACE.
Enjoy...
