Donna's Favorites


A birthday favorite for the whole family and a very good cake for Valentines day!

Red Cake

1 cup butter
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red food dye
1 cup butter milk or sour milk
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream together butter and sugar
Add the eggs and food dye
Add the milk alternately With the dry ingredients

Bake in 3 (8 or 9 in.) greased round pans for 25 to 30 minutes at 350 degrees.


Custard Frosting

1 cup milk
4 TBSP. flour

Cook in double boiler until thick. Keep stirring while cooking. Let stand till cold.

Beat 1 cup butter with 1 cup sugar, pinch of salt and 1 tsp. vanilla. Add flour mixture and continue beating till ready for spreading.
