In March/April of 1997, Heaven closed for $1.4 million dollar renovations, bringing with it the beginning of Heaven II. Heaven is the first nightclub in Adelaide to offer 'cashless' nights with a membership card, which also offers the member drink specials throughout the night and free entry into Heaven, along with discounts at various stores in Adelaide, such as Central Station.
Heaven is also one of the first nightclubs to have greatly increased security measures. This includes metal detectors. I have always felt safe in Heaven. The bouncers are friendly, especially once you get to know them, and they keep an eye out at every corner of the club.
Heaven won the Best Dance Club in the South Australian Dance Music Awards (1998), which it has won nearly every other year since the club opened.
One of my pet hates is when people leave their drink or empty glass on the dancefloor and you end up dancing on broken glass. There is another club in Adelaide (which I won't mention by name, I'll just say it's situated on Pirie Street...) No bouncers keep an eye out for what goes on at the dancefloor (well since I last went there they didn't). At Heaven the security make sure that nobody drinks or smokes on the floor, which is a cool safety measure because if you happened to fall you don't have the risk of cutting yourself on broken glass.
Heaven used to be open 4 nights a week. It's open on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday nights, and once a month on Fridays.
Time Warp on Wednesday nights is a step back in time. The atmosphere on these nights is something totally different to any other night in Heaven, let alone another club! Time Warp is a night to groove to disco tunes from the 70's and 80's.
Time Warp has two main DJs of the night; Barbi and Brian Datsun. Brian dresses up in his groovy 70's gear; flares and wild shirts and a groovy hairdo, while Barbi wears her pink outfits.
I have only been to Time Warp every so often (nowhere near as much as I'd love to go!) However those nights were always excellent and memorable. Once they had organised a 'foam party', where the dancefloor had been transformed into a huge bubble bath, and people were dancing with foam up to their shins! We all stood under the foam machine, getting saturated and having foam fights!
Chemistry on Thursday nights is devoted to playing stuff like Techno, Trance, Rave, Tribal, Drum & Bass, High NRG, House and Hard House. Chemistry is loud, fast and energetic! I recently went to Chemistry for the first time and I tell ya, it's hard to keep still! Your DJs are Jayse, GTB and Kontrol and MCs Tim and Moore keep the crowd jumping. Chemistry definately is THE 'perfect Thursday night formula'.
Delirium was on every Friday night in Heaven. I must admit that there were never that many people when I would go there, which is a shame because some nights were really great there, especially when they had special events and promotions. Delirium focused on early 90's to today's dance music.
Clubland is on every Saturday night in Heaven. You can catch me here just about every weekend! Your DJs for Clubland are Jayse, James Ingram and Relax and your MCs are Tim and Moore. Clubland plays the latest in dance, and classic club anthems. Clubland would have to be one of my favourite nights in Heaven (Chemistry a close second!).
