Andreas Scholl: Countertenor

"...undoubtedly the best-equipped countertenor of the day, perhaps any day".

Heroes - Album CoverI have only heard Scholl sing on CDs, which makes me want to hear him sing "live". I do not know very much about opera singing but Scholl's voice is most undoubtedly so pleasing that the experience of listening to his voice is so much like feeling silk cloth against one's cheek.

I especially enjoy his rendition of Handel's Ombra mai fu. You can find this track on Scholl's Heroes album (on the Decca label).

Andreas Scholl was born in Germany and studied with Richard Levitt and Rene Jacobs at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. He is a winner of two Gramaphone Awards - for the recordings of Vivaldi's Stabat Mater and Antonio Caldara's Maddalena ai piedi di Cristo.

The picture of Andreas Scholl used here is taken from the Heroes album by Andreas Scholl under the Decca label.
