Musical Theatre. What's the big deal?
I got started listening to musicals when I was 14, when my crazy friend had this nutty affection for the music from the "Phantom of the Opera". I thought the title sounded quite crappy. But I failed to listen to the music. When I heard the music, it was like a whole new world had opened up.
I was fascinated. I went on to buy the cassette tape version of "Les Miserables", which cost me almost $30, musicals being rather unknown in Singapore at that time. And then, I decided on a whim to try this musical, "Miss Saigon". I had heard about it somewhere but didn't know what it sounded like at all. And I must say, to this day, I never regretted buying that tape.
I've gone on to getting CDs now and I've got CDs like "Rent", "Miss Saigon", "Les Miserables", "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", "Chicago", "Starlight Express", "Song and Dance", "Cats", "Phantom of the Opera", "Sunset Boulevard" and a few others.
