finetime
- April 1997. Scuba at Ellingtons, Swansea
Scuba are well known, and well respected on home
turf in the capital, but how would they fair a little further away from
home? Very well is the simple answer - not brilliantly, but on a rainy
Swansea night, to raise the spirits of this inquisitive crowd was telling
in itself. This is a band on their way somewhere - solid hooky tunes, great
look, promising future. They still have some work to do - their "experimental"
tunes on occasion dragged their feet through the more poppy stuff, but
atleast they're trying something different. Scuba have obviously paid their
dues in the songwriting and arranging department - clever use of dynamics,
changes of feel within songs, and even the surprise entrance of a flute!
This is one, in the sea of welsh bands to actually look out for. Catch
them now, before they're snared by the big time as they undoubtedly will
be...
