Angel at Age 5 Angel at Age 18 months This is my daughter, Angel [(left) at age 5; (right) 18 months old] (I have removed the recent pic of her at her request). Ang was born on June 27, 1981. Her father told me, "She's an angel", as soon as he saw her in the labor room - hence, the name "Angel". She made the honor roll throughout her elementary and high school years and the Dean's list every semester while attending college. "Our little Angel" is now a grown woman. Angel's favorite pasttime is basketball. As you can see by the picture on the right, that love of basketball started at an early age! ~smile~...

Ang started playing for a local community instructional basketball league at age 7 and has been playing ever since. She attended 1997 Keystone State Games Girls Basketball Camp and was invited to and attended their "shootout" and the Pennsylvania Invitational Girls High School Showcase in which scouts from colleges were in attendance. She was nominated for the "Hustler" award (the second highest award given at the Keystone State Camps) and was picked to play on the All-Star Championship Team, but was unable to do so due to an injury she sustained the day of the game. She received three letters the week following the shootout from college coaches who saw her play in these shootouts outlining their basketball program and asking her to consider their college in her plans following high school. She played on the high school varsity team in 9th grade and was a swing player for her High School Basketball team during her junior year playing mostly on the Junior Varisty team, with some play with the Varsity team. She had chondromalacia and missed one year of play (in her sophomore year) due to this condition.

Ang's first love has always been basketball. When she was growing up, Ang had always aspired to playing college ball with glimmers of hope for the WBNA. Her second love is music, especially TLC, TuPac and Boys II Men and many more. Her third love is the computer and the internet. Her CD player is her life support system! When she's not on the computer working on school work, working on her web pages, or chatting on the net, she is on the basketball court. She is also a very talented writer and artist and enjoys sketching with pencil and charcoal. She was also named "most artistic" by her ninth grade classmates in their yearbook.

Angel has never given us any trouble (save the terrible two's). It took her a long time to finally decide to get her driver's license, but at age 20 she finally succeeded and on her first attempt. Dating has never been a priority with her, either.

Angel's High School varsity team took first place in their division and lost in the second consolation game of the district tournament. They were given another chance at the state title and lost in the second consolation game of that tournament. The Junior Varsity record for that season was 19 wins - 3 losses. She also received the "6th Man Award" from her Junior Varisty Coach at the team's end-of-season banquet. It was a very exciting season!

Angel played on an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) traveling team in 1998. She was the starting point guard for this team and averaged 11 points per game (9 points each game from 3-pt. baskets). She did very well with this team. Her high school summer basketball league coincided with the AAU league's season, so she played on two teams from June to August that year.

Angel attended the 1998 Keystone State Games Girls Basketball Camp for the second time. She was again nominated for the "Hustler Award" and was chosen and played in the All-Star Championship Game. Her team lost by eight points despite a valiant effort.

Ang was the starting pointguard for her High School Varsity team in her senior year and had another great season. Her team made it to the playoffs for the state championship but lost their first game to end the season on a disappointing note. Ang received some awards at her end of the season banquet.

The high school basketball league awarded her with an "Honorable Mention" for her performance that season and her name appeared in the newspaper for that. She also received the "Unsung Heroine" award for not getting the recognition for her performance that the coaches and team felt she deserved during the season. And she also was given an award for having the highest field goal percentage and highest number of assists on the team. She received an trophy for "perfect attendance" at games and practices (which she stated she promised a former teammate she would get this year stating, "I don't break a promise!"). And she also received a "silly" award from the team captains for "The Best TLC and TUPAC Fan" as Ang was always with her headset on listening to one or the other in her free time. ~smile~... She also received her Varsity Letters that year and a keychain with the season's record engraved on the back.

Ang applied to and was accepted at the first four colleges she applied to which include: The University Of Pittsburgh, Virginia Wesleyan College, Temple University, and Villanova University. Even though she hadn't applied to their college, Ang also received a letter from Cabrini College offering her a scholarship and place on their basketball team after one of their scouts had seen her play in an AAU tournament.

Ang graduated from high school with honors! Following her senior year, Ang tried out for and made the AAU Summer League Team with a local team here as starting pointguard. At the first tournament, a college coach offered Ang a scholarship with the opportunity to play on their basketball team. After weighing all her options, Ang gratefully accepted their offer. Thanks to Ang's SAT score of 1170 and her high achievements in high school, Ang not only received an athletic scholarship but also academic scholarships which, in total, covered her tuition at college.

To celebrate her graduation from high school, we allowed her to take a trip to West Palm Beach, Florida with her friends for a "senior week" vacation. She moved into her dorm room at college in September, 1999 and has done extremely well at college!

She had been getting her share of playing time with the basketball team (mostly as "shooting guard, with some time as "point guard"). She led her team in 3-pt. field goals with her percentage at 33.3% (4 for 12) during her first season. We drove up to watch her games as often as we could! So it has kept us pretty busy over the years!

She finished up her first semester at college with a cumulative average of 3.59, and she achieved Dean's List Honors every semester thereafter!

In addition to making the college's Dean's List each semester, Ang has been nominated for and has been added to the National Dean's List each year she has attended College. The athletic director of the college also nominated her for and Ang received an All-American Scholar Award in 2001. She was also accepted into the college's Computer Science Honor Society in 2001.

****UPDATE****

Ang graduated from college on May 19, 2003 (our 24th wedding anniversary - what a present, huh? ~smile~...) She graduated "cum laude" with a BS in Computer Science Programming in the top 15% of her class. The only student athlete ever to graduate with that major in the history of the college and she was also the first woman to graduate with a BS in Computer Science Programming.

I don't think I have to tell you how proud we are of her! We foresee great things happening in her future!

~~big proud smile~~...
