A new year has begun, and yet it all seems the same. Some friends of mine and I decided to go to the movies this weekend to see Varsity Blues. This is a movie about teenagers, aimed a a teenage audience, and rated R. Anyone under the age of 17 is not allowed to get into an R rated movie. No problem, everyone I was going with was 17 or older. Myself, I will turn 20 next month.

Since the movie opened just this weekend, all the shows were being sold out. I decided to go and buy the tickets early to make sure that we could get in. So, when I go to the ticket booth to buy tickets, the girl cards me. I am over 17, so there is no problem. She asks me if everyone that is coming with me is 17 or over. I reply "yes" because everyone is. She then tells me that everyone has to bring ID.

This is a movie we're talking about. Since when do you have to have a driver's license, birth certificate, social security card, finger prints, green card, passport, bank account, major credit card, ect, ect, ect to get into a stupid movie?!?! Of course that was an exaggeration, but only by a little bit. Not everyone has a driver's license, or something with their picture and birthdate on it. This created a bit of a problem.

Everyone meets at the theatre, I pass out thi tickets, and the fun begins. I walk in first, and of course get carded, yet again. They card everyone else, and give us a problem about what kind of ID everyone has. It's not good enough, it doesn't have the proper information on it. First off, it's not our fault if we look younger than we are. I'm almost 20, and yet I look like I'm about 15. Second, our money is justas good as everyone else's. But it seems like our is tainted with some kind of poison at times.

After creating a big scene, everyone is finally being able to get into the movie. I think it was an excellent movie. The R rating was most likely due to the swearing, 1 nudity scene, and drinking by teenagers. In my opinion, a teenagers life is rated R, and the movie was mild compared to what teenagers actually do. All in all, it had one message that was very clear, no matter how it crudely is was made, always believe in yourself and stand up for what you believe in. It wasn't said, there wasn't some pansy speech about it milked in there, you just know it. And since it wasn't brought about in a cheesy way, the point was made more clear.

So, my review is a "kickass". =) A movie that has a good point, yet is entertaining, and not cheesy.
