My site will be MOVING!!!
I decided to move my page because I know everyone hates geocities and those annoying pop-up ads and I was also running just on about empty as far as space goes. So, I got a new page that gives me more space, no pop-ups or other ads, and a shorter & easier adress to remember. Due to the fact that I am trying to move all the files (there are a lot) and do a whole new design for the new site, I will not be able to update the news much in the next week. Anything of great importance I will post, other than that I will not be updating. So, here you have it... the new URL:

Bad news in London
The shows are not selling out. The balcony is closed. Rumored to be closing in December... Definitely feels as though we are witnessing the end of the beginning of Rent. With the Angel cast closing and now the possibility of closing in London... I don't know what to think of it all.

Daphne is supposively going to be in the Off-Broadway show Gum. I have no official news of this, but thought I would report it anyway. It will run October 6 - 31, 1999. Go to the Women's Project & Productions site for details.

In shock...
I am still in shock over the Angel Cast closing... I just can't believe it. I've loved them since the first time I saw them on opening night in DC. I just can't get over it. When I'm not in total shock over that, I'm busy working on a new design for this site. So far it's going great, but I don't have a clue as to when it will be finished. I changed some small graphics here and there already, but the real major stuff isn't ready for viewing yet.
Aida Dates
Here's the first word on Broadway dates for Disney's Aida: Previews are expected to begin at the Palace on February 23, with an opening scheduled for March 23.

The Angel Cast is CLOSING September 5th!
The producers looked at the numbers for the next four weeks and they aren't making anywhere close to a profit. An ad will be placed in friday's paper that will read something along the line of the final four weeks. The show is closing on September 5th forever, without question (unless a miracle happens and the sales go through the roof all of a sudden). This is a sad day, the Angels will be missed greatly.

 As I have reported earlier, Wilson Jermaine Heredia will be returning to Rent on Broadway starting August 6th. Playbill Online just reported this news today. Read the article here. The article also mentions that Jose Llana (the current Angel) is leaving Rent for the role of the villain Guillame in Alain Boublil-Claude Michel Schonberg's Martin Guerre (which I also have reported earlier). I just thought I'd remind everyone since its coming up soon.

Tomorrow the Benny cast will give a cabaret performance at the Great Aunt Stella Center benefitting the Metrolina AIDS project. Tickets for the show, at 7pm, are $25. Wilson Jermaine Heredia returns to Rent
Return of an Angel
With Jose Llana leaving the Broadway Rent to take on a principal role in Martin Guerre, Rent's original, Tony-winning Angel, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, will return to the role in the New York production.

The Boston benefit was cancelled. Julia Santana (Mimi) of the Benny tour will be leaving and Yassmin Alers of the Broadway cast will be replacing her. It seems as though the Benny tour knows how to play ball! They beat the cast of Titanic and Fame! Go here for details.

Tomorrow the Angel Cast will sing at the AIDS WALK. During the open ceremony for the walk at Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park, the cast will sing "Seasons of Love." Check it out at 9:45am!
Boston:
Wednesday, July 21st the Benny Cast will perform as part of a benefit for Broadway Cares, Equity Fights AIDS at the Cosmopolitan Restaurant & Nightclub at 54 Canal Street. Tickets are $20 and are available at the door. Cast members will perform from 6:00-6:30pm and then return after their show from 11:30-12:00pm to meet their fans, sign autographs and party!

Official U.S. Cast Album News
With the German cast recording now available and several more foreign-language albums to follow, Rent could also be getting a new English-language recording: Along the lines of the "symphonic" Les Miz and Miss Saigon, it would feature performers from various international Rent companies, with Krysten Cummings (Toronto/London/current New York) and Neil Patrick Harris (L.A.) possible for two of the leads. Speaking of Rent, Jose Llana, who has been playing Angel, is likely to be Guillaume in the U.S. Martin Guerre.

There are a lot of rumors going around about a new RENT cast recording to be coming out. I have no confirmed news of this, but I did hear that Krysten Cummings is supposed to be the Mimi on it, so I am guessing it would be a new Broadway Cast recording. If anyone knows the details behind this please email me and let me know. There is a single for the Norwegian cast recording of Seasons of Love coming out soon and the German Cast recording came out not too long ago as well (if anyone wanted to know).
I finished my Laura Dias page and I also added some new benny tour dates.
One last thing, I am really busy these days doing stuff and I wouldn't have expected that since I'm on summer vacation, but oh well. So, I won't get time to write a review of the show in San Francisco. It was a really great show and I loved Sharon Leal, but I don't have the time to write the review.

 I am back from San Francisco and I had a great time! I love that city. The show was great and I'll have a review later, but for now I only have two things to say about it... Sharon Leal rocks and I do not like Dean Balkwill.
In other Rent news... Marcy left Broadway on Sunday and Krysten starts as the new Mimi tonight. The Tony's were on Sunday and Anthony and the cast of YAGMCB the song Happiness and Anthony & Roger Bart (Snoopy) were on CNN Saturday talking about the upcoming Tony's.

Events going on in San Francisco:
Sunday, June 27th the cast will perform at The Gay Pride Parade. 12:30 - 1 pm on the mainstage (in front of City Hall).
Sunday, July 18th the cast will be performing at the AIDS WALK.

Unfortunately I won't be able to get myself up to NYC because I'll be in San Francisco seeing Rent there.  Laura Dias aka Maya is becoming quite the musical success! Her new song if you buy this record (you life will be better) is becoming very popular. I hear it on the radio almost every day. I'm starting a new page about her since she is my favorite Mimi and I love her dance songs as well. I will let you know more about her and the new page very soon. Jesse L. Martin & Taye Diggs seem to be quite the rising stars! Jesse will be on Law & Order next season (replacing some other character or something) and Taye is evidently featured as one of People's 50 Most Beautiful People. I also saw a movie poster for The Wood with him on it.
