This second line can be traced back only to Anthony and Dominic, two bothers whose names obviously reflect the Italian influence on the family. The only information we have on their immigration indicates they arrived in Chicago directly upon entering the United States.

We have little information on Anthony other than a report that he disappeared from Chicago to live somewhere in the west and later it was learned that he had been killed in a gun battle. We know more of Dominic. He was one of the personal body guards for Wilhelm II, the last of the German Kaisers. He was chosen because he was 6'3" and Wilhelm thought it impressive to be surrounded by tall guards. Rumor has it that Dominic left the old country because he had "a lady in trouble." To stay would have resulted in marriage and possibly death. (Not clear who this lady was.) He opted to leave with his brother. He married Carolin Wallilsh and had one son, Robert. Robert married Catherine Grafner and had three sons: Raymond (born 11/28/38 and died a child); Robert, Jr, who married Pat Brownly and had a set of twins; Thomas and Robert; and finally Richard John who was born in Chicago 11/21/43 and married Jean Hezinger. (Interesting to note that Jean's great-grandfather was the custodian of the Black Forest in Germany and her grandfather owned the bar where John Dillon was killed.) Richard and Jean have one son, Richard John, Jr, who is now 29.

A 12/98 Update from: From: Bruce Mahler   (with some additional info form his sister, Mary Lou Nyderek)

My name is Bruce Mahler, I live in Negaunee, MI. I am the son of Caroline (Mariacher) Mahler the daughter of Dominic Mariacher. I wanted to update you on Domonics family!

Domonic died in the spring of 1976 at the age of 94. For the last year of his life he lived with my family and I shared a bedroom with him, he was 94, I was 16, what a couple of roomies.

Domonic had a large family. When he married Carolyn Wallish she had a son from a previous marriage - my uncle Ray Siebenaler, who is deceased. My uncle John Mariacher is still alive and lives in Grayslake, Il. My uncle Robert Mariacher is still alive and lives in Rockland, MI. My uncle Bill Mariacher is still alive and lives in Portage, IN. My aunt Lucille Mariacher is deceased and my mother passed away in 1981. I don't have alot of information on my mothers siblings families but I will share with you the information on my family. Two daughters and one son died as children. One of the daughters was Sophie. The son was Clarence, who died at age 7 in an automobile accident.

My mother, Caroline, (m. 1936) and my father, Paul Mahler, had eight children:
Paul Mahler - Dallas, PA (m. Rose, children: Paul, Jr., Erik, Nicholas)
Caroline (Mahler) Lewey - Osseo, WI (m. Richard, children: William, glinda, Paul & Ronnie. 7 grandchildren)
Barbara (Mahler) Redmore - Tice, FL (m. Arthur, children: Monica, Barbara,Ann, James, & Deborah. 12 gc, 1ggc)
William Mahler - Ironwood, MI (m. Sharon Matthews, chilldren: William, Joseph, & Dionna. 9 grandchildren)
Mary Lou (Mahler) Nyderek - Ironwood, MI (m. Robert, children: Rebecca & Dominic. 1 grandchild)
Bruce Mahler - Negaunee, MI (m. Kim Perron, children:: Jeremy, Ryan, Eric, Zachary & Coda. 1 grandchild)
Tammy (Mahler) Morris - Bessemer, MI (m. Michael Keto, div, children: Lee)
Lucille Mahler - single and now deceased

My grandfather moved from Chicago to the suburbs in the early 1950s settling in Round Lake Beach, IL. I remember as a child marveling at his portrait in his Prussian Army Uniform.  My mother told me he worked for Kaiser Wilhelm, but it wasn't until I read your web page that I heard for the first time that he was one of the Kaiser's body gurads. This doesn't surprise me for he was a big man, 6'4", not an inch shorter. He had a very commanding appearance and a noticeable military demeanor.  He was a great influence on my life.  I remember he used to receive letters from his sister in Austria, I cannot remember her name nor how many other siblings he had, one of my uncles may know. What I do know, for I have a copy of his birth certificate, is that he was born in the town of Virgen, in the Provence of Tyrol.  So, in your research I would be interested in any information you have on individuals living in that town, or on individuals in this country who are from that town.

Finally, prior to writing this E-Mail I spoke to my sister Mary Lou (Whose son is named after grampa). We were not aware of what happened to Anthony. My grandfather never knew, he only knew that he moved out west and had worked in the mines. I would be interested to know if Anthony had any Children. Also, my sister is the airport secretary at the Ironwood, MI airport. A few years back she ran into a commuter pilot with the name of Mariacher, but never had the opportunity to explore any potential family history. It would be interesting to know if there are any commuter pilots that you know of with the Mariacher name. If there are and he ever stops in Ironwood again, make sure to say Hi to Mary Lou. Thanks for listening to my ramblings and I look forward to reviewing your webpage periodically for any new information.
