Today started early, or in my case, it ended late. I drove Pam to the airport. She had a day trip to San Francisco and I
said that I would drive her. Her plane left at about 6am, so I told her
that I would be there to pick her up at about 4:30am. There's basically no
way that I would be able to wake up at that time, so whenever I have to be
awake at this time of day, I elect to stay up. Not that it is that big of
a deal, I often stay up very late
in fact I routinely stay up until
6am or so.
My friend Jenna left today. I was only able to say a short goodbye to her. Her friend was actually the one who drove her to the airport. Today is a busy airport day. It was fun having her here, although I didn't spend as much time with her as I initially thought. This was a first for me, meeting someone for the first time and putting them up. I'd do it again though. At work, I spent the day tracking down bugs. There are always bugs. I don't want you to get the impression that I work on a buggy product, because I don't. Obviously, we work on newer features and there are going to be some problems with those, but on large software projects, there are way too many things that interact with each other in strange ways. Picture this imagine a large pot of chili where half a dozen different people add ingredients, and each person has their own idea of what the chili should taste like. Each bug is like every time one person adds an ingredient, narrowing down the perfect flavor. Programming is similar to this. Things are pretty hectic. At this stage of the product, things can move around pretty quickly. I'm working somewhat like a fireman. I'm doing spot debugging. Yes, I know this sounds a little weird. I went to pick Pam up at the airport. I was very glad to see her. We rode the monorail from the concourse to the main terminal, and she sat on my lab during the ride. We got dinner shortly after leaving the airport. There were a number of places that were nearby in SouthCenter that opened fairly late. Originally, we talked about going to Azteca for Mexican, but as we drove past the Houlihan's, we decided to eat there. As we were being seated, we looked for the score of the Lakers game. Her favorite team, the Spurs, had gotten eliminated, but she was still tracking the playoffs. We sat in a booth near the bar where we could occasionally see the score. Dinner was fun, but we were both a bit tired. We went back to her place and went to sleep pretty shortly. Zzzz May 5, 2000 |
