I had set my alarm this morning for 9:30am, which is to say the alarm on my
cell phone. Since I don't have an alarm clock at Pam's. I'm not sure why I did that since I wasn't meeting Dalia until 11am. Still, I suppose for
things such as this I'd rather be early rather than late. I was just
planning to roll out of bed and drive to the meeting place, which we picked
as one of the gas stations near the highway. Thank goodness I was able to
park in the building, since Pam returned her car
yesterday.
Pam spent a fair part of the day cleaning. Her sister was arriving tomorrow morning at 10am. What is it with this morning thing? I would've helped except I really don't know much about cleaning. My place is an incredible mess. No, I'm not exagerating. My office isn't much better. I suppose my mind just doesn't function that way. I always find better things to do than putting things away. Maybe one of these days when I don't feel that I'm quite as busy I could go ahead and keep my place neat, but I wouldn't bet on it. I simply did my best to stay out of her way while she cleaned to her heart's content. I watched baseball, there's some justice in the world. There's a part of me that misses baseball. Yes, I track the games from day to day. However, it has been a while since I watched one on television. The Braves have a number of new players this year and it feels a little strange to be unfamiliar with the way they look. In past years, I would watch the games on the weekend. Many games are televised and they come on pretty early for Seattle time (about 1pm in Atlanta which is 10am in Seattle) and yes, I would wake up to watch the game. It was a bit of a lazy day. We did eventually wander out and get dinner. We went to I love sushi to get well, sushi. No rocket science there. We got our usual, which consists of spider rolls, spicy tuna rolls, rosanna rolls, and scallop nigiri. And probably some other things that I'm forgetting. We went through our normal chat about the proper way to mix the soy sauce and the wasabi. She too has mastered this by now and no longer needs my help. This was our first real meal of the day, so we were pretty hungry. It really hit the spot. Naturally, as night approached, we got hungry again. It must've been about 10pm when we decided to get food. Many places had closed down by this point, since Seattle is such a wuss for a city and refuse to develop a night life. Not that I'm bitter. Not at all, but I just find it a bit ironic that one of their more popular coffee houses doesn't open past 1am on a Saturday. Larry's Market was open, and we walked down to get some food. The first thing that struck my fancy was the chicken wings. I'm not sure why, but I'm a sucker for chicken wings. They had a small tub and we picked those up. We also picked up celery and blue cheese, not that I though we needed them, but Pam picked them up. We also picked up more fruit than I can remember. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against fruit. I just don't eat it very often. My favorite fruit is probably oranges, having spent so much of my life in Florida. It is basically the only fruit that I will tolerate working for. All other fruits have to be very simple because otherwise I don't bother with them. For instance, I like the taste of watermelon, but the idea of carrying it or cutting it is too much work. The other reason why I don't normally pick them up while shopping is because they're perishables. Yeah, I know what you're thinking Well, Duh! You see, you can't effectively freeze fruit, so if you buy fruit you only have a span of days to eat them. Most other food you can keep for some time. Meats you can freeze, which I do. Oh, also there is no season to other foods. Is chicken ever in season? No. I'm just not sure how much I can enjoy something if I can't have it whenever I want. I suppose it is a bit of a control thing. You may also observe that some vegetables are that way too. You know I don't like them either. We walked back to her place carrying the groceries, which were pretty heavy. We briefly wondered why it was that we didn't drive to Larry's Market. We alternated blocks carrying the heavy bag. Why is it we got pineapple and watermelon again? She prepared the wings and they were exceptional, and admittedly the blue cheese and celery were a nice touch. Although, I'm not sure if they were worth carrying. I heard somewhere that celery is negative calories, or to be more precise it takes you body more calories to digest celery than it actually yields. We finally sat down to eat at around midnight. She made the comment that it was a true midnight snack. July 2, 2000 |
