There was a brief power outage today in my building. They're working on some of the transformers for the building, and the power was interrupted. Normally, I wouldn't think that this was noteworthy. I had recently saved all the changes that I was making to the source code; I had recently started making other changes, but they were only a handful of minutes ago. Not a big problem.

One of my test machines had stopped booting though. I'm not just talking that it was computer equivalent of coughing or crawling or something. It simply lacked all signs of life. Nothing, not a single LED would even blip. It was dead.

I tried to diagnose any problems it may be having and it was midnight before I finally admitted to being outmatched. This computer simply did not want to be helped. It wanted to go along on it's peaceful slumber. I sent mail to the helpdesk folks in the hopes that they might be able to get it booting again.

Without a test machine, I can't reproduce the bugs that I'm fixing nor can I verify the fixes. It is a bit like driving blind. Not the kind of thing that you really want to do, especially now that we're trying to be more careful about the changes we make. Needless to say, losing my test machine is a fairly big setback.

Life mocks me.

I went back to my kickboxing class today. It had been a two week absence, and I had missed it. Okay, most people don't really miss kickboxing. Just like most people don't really enjoy the act of brushing their teeth. Yes, everyone does it, but mostly because they want clean teeth, not because they like the feeling of white froth spewing from their mouth as they run bristles across their teeth.

The return to kickboxing was not as bad as I originally thought it would've been. Our regular instructor, Dawnie Rae had not returned from her vacation yet, so Cliff had taken over the class again. He runs the class a bit differently, not necessarily better or worse, just different.

Ironically, I do miss the minute muscle soreness that you always have from working out regularly, though I'm feeling it today, since I went running on Tuesday.
