I had stayed up late the night before, until the wee hours of the morning, or more accurately, until daylight hours. I think I may have ended up going to sleep at about 10am or so. Such is the life of a creature of the night. Life is a bit strange sometimes.

It is not my fault really; one of my friends got online and we chatted for a little while.

Today I had plans to take Pam and her parents to IKEA. I like IKEA. It has a little of everything, besides it is a furniture store that doesn't make you feel out of place. There are too many furniture stores that make you feel like you're not just bying a couch, but more like you're buying into a lifestyle. The stuff at IKEA is just that… stuff. If I wanted to make a statement, I would move my lips, not buy a chair.

I planned to go back to work today… eventually. I was going to do one of those late nights again. Things at work have been hectic. It's a crazy world.

Pam's mom went to some length to describe their lunch. They went to a deli a short distance from the apartment. The omelettes were exceptionally big, and the sandwiches were equally impressive. I've missed hot pastrami sandwiches since the local subway has stopped making them, and thus this deli sounded very interesting. It was late afternoon already, so it was really not a good time for lunch. I had not eaten anything all day, but I wasn't all that hungry really.

She was on the phone with Pam's brother, and again went to some detail in describing the lunch, which I find to be a bit of an odd thing to talk about, much like the weather. Oh, let's not get started on the weather, their family seem to be unusually interested in the weather. Remember years ago when the weather channel first came on cable. I remember thinking to myself, "Who on earth is going to watch this?" To my astonishment, they watch it pretty actively. So food and the weather, exciting conversation I tell you.

Naturally, I, being the twisted individual that I am, played a song for Pam from my Pocket PC. Technically, it wasn't really a song, but it was a track off an audio CD. The name of the CD is Cyborgasm, I was surfing the web last night (reading up on 3D audio) when I came across a page which mentioned this CD. It was about halfway though the article when I realized that I had picked up this CD a few years ago only to set it aside. I managed to find it among my stack of things.

As you might surmise from the name, this CD is erotic in nature. I was very amused by having her listen to the track of a couple in the midst of passion while sitting in the same room as her parents. Like I said, I'm twisted. She seemed quite intrigued by it.

Her father was asking me the assorted questions on precisely where we were and where we were going. He had managed to find a map of Bellevue since last night from one of the local businesses, or maybe it was the welcome package from the apartment complex. I can't remember.

We did drive down to IKEA. It was raining lightly. The only reason why I think this bears mentioning is because Pam becomes even more excitable as a passenger when it rains. She instinctively digs her fingernails into arm when she gets tense. Of course, I could drive even less assertively than I do now… Nah!

We arrived otherwise uneventfully. We roamed through the store as we looked at possibilities for new furniture. I found a number of things that appealed to me. I got flatware for eight settings, four sets were white and the others were blue. Why do I purposely get mismatched sets? I'm strange that way.

As for Pam, she didn't actually pick up any furniture. It was a bit of a delicate issue with her parents, so we didn't pick anything up.

We were all very hungry by now. We debated where to go to eat. I asked some general questions while they tried to narrow down at least what type of food we were in the mood for. We ended up going to Dead Robin. It is a good place, nice and upbeat without being snobby and condescending. Sorry, I'm very sensitive to snottiness.

A number of us end up getting malts, which were very good. They served it with the mixing cup on the side with the remainder of the malt. I got a raspberry malt, I suppose mostly because I find vanilla and chocolate a little too common.

I got the California chicken burger, which was good as always. Naturally, Pam ordered that freakish burger she's so fond of… the Bleu ribbon burger. She reasons that it is not so strange since bleu cheese is simply another form of cheese, but I rebut by pointing out that cream cheese and cottage cheese are also cheeses, and I want neither near any burger I'm planning to eat.

Pam and I talked about ditching her parents and going to see a movie, more specifically, we talked about seeing The Cell. Her mom seemed a little hurt when we told them, but she had to understand that Pam and I wanted to spend some time together.

That's precisely what we ended up doing, dropping her parents off while we went to the movie.

We never made the movie, we were distracted by something else… I won't say it was pent up passion, but I won't deny it either. Okay, I admit it, it was pent up passion, but that just sounds so much better than horniness. The only problem was that her parents were at her place, and my place looks like a paper graveyard. So naturally, we ended up doing the adult thing. We got a hotel room. We'll overlook that generally the terms slob and adult don't mix well.

Actually, we tried the one hotel which was right across the street from my office, but they didn't have any of the smaller rooms and we figured that we could get a better rate. We're nothing if not practical even when we are… amorous.

We eventually ended up getting a place in Redmond, which is the place where Len's parents had stayed when they came to visit him. They even gave me a corporate rate, though they had to keep my business card. Naturally, Pam was a little surprised that I asked for the corporate rate. I just figured I was being practical. The one thing that had not occured to me until later was that this would be abusing this benefit. Are you only supposed to use this rate for corporate business? [Anyone?]

We ended up taking some of our little… accessories with us to the hotel room. Naturally, I won't go into the details of the remainder of our evening, save for that we both were able to relieve some tension and that we both got a short nap. We ended up leaving at about 3am.

Needless to say, I didn't go back to work.
