Today I started with a late day. Indeed a very late day. I think
I eventually got to work at about 4pm, which is late
even for me.
Such is life I suppose.
It must've been evening when I was talking to Pam. She mentioned that she and her parents enjoyed watching The Princess Bride and wondered if there were other movies like it. I certainly don't blame them. It is one of my favorite movies; it is quite charming. We had both had dinner already, but we still wanted to see each other. Naturally we did the most sensible things adults would do we went to get Slurpees™. Pam still maintains that I don't drink (or I suppose, slurp) correctly, since I seem to experience Brain Freeze™. Naturally, I maintain that I do, especially since 7-Eleven did an advertising campaign with the slogan Brain Freeze™, so good it hurts!I drove to her place and picked her up, since she doesn't like driving at night and is still not familiar with this part of town. I think her parents found it a bit strange that we were going out on a school night to get Slurpees. The simple truth is that we wanted to spend time together and getting slurpees was just a convenient excuse. They didn't come along, naturally. Ironically, we ended up going to the 7-Eleven near my place, since it is the one with the flavor that we both like. Lemonade. It is soo good. We ended up getting a number of other things as well, like Gatorade for instance. She seems to have a fondness for the more exotic flavors. Technically, the flavors are not exotic; they're just labeled that way. For instance, let's take the flavor Fierce Grape. You know I've seen grapes, they have never struck me as fierce, nor any other fruit for that matter. I made her drive, though naturally I was sitting next to her. I personally don't buy the premise that it is more difficult to drive at night. Yes, I understand the entire visibility argument, but there is significantly less traffic at night, enough to offset the disadvantages of darkness. We continued driving for a while, I showed her where some of the other places where. I knew she would be interested in some places, like Redmond Town Center. I pointed as she drove, and that seemed to ease some of her stress. One of the other complications is that she didn't want to get on the freeway, which frankly (no pun intended) made for a longer trip with considerably more complicated directions. On the way to there we passed a Larry's Market, which see seems to like over regular non-snotty grocery stores. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Okay, I'm complaining. I don't really like Larry's Market, though it is easier to find some more exotic things there, like coconut ice cream, which I certainly won't complain about. The Larry's Market was open though we didn't wander in. We also drove by the Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It, however, was closed. We still drove by and she was fascinated by it. I didn't see the appeal, but then again I'm fascinated by electronic gadgets, so who am I to criticize? We drove back shortly after that, having exhausted our options of places to explore, without getting on the freeway anyway. I kissed her goodnight. I went back to work after that. Some may call it dedication, although tonight the word "gullability" seemed to stick to my mind better than "dedication". I had arrived at work late and wanted to get some things done today. I stayed for a few hours before deciding to leave. I wasn't feeling 100% and Dugan even loaned me his thermometer so I could take my temperature, which only seemed a tad elevated. On the way home I decided to stop by Safeway. I was feeling like I was coming down with a cold and decided to get some medication. I normally get the Nyquil-like liquicaps. I don't get the brand name, which is largely Len's doing. He mentioned that there is no functional difference between the brand name and the generic versions, except the price. He even suggested I look at the ingredients. He was right; I'm a changed man. I also got my own thermometer, a digital one. I'm such a gadget fanatic. I stop by Taco Bell, since it had now been over ten hours since my last meal. Funny how these things turn out. You can't imagine how much of my business Taco Bell gets simply because they're open 24 hours. I went home and ate my dinner. I also checked my temperature again. It was indeed elevated, but not to the point of being a fever. Still I took my medication and went to sleep. Sometimes it is just good to sleep. September 4, 2000 |
