Site Diary

What's new? Your one-stop guide to tracking those changes.

26th February 2000 Welcome to 2000, and thanks to all those who got in touch in December. I don't know why so many turned up then after a while but I'm happy you did. You can now see the league of absentees by clicking on that nasty looking AWOL caption on the members page. I'm happy to say its a much smaller league than I thought it would be. It would be nice to track down a few more people though, so if you know the whereabouts of any of them, give them a nudge in this direction. Thanks to Mike, Caitlin, James L and John for all the news from foreign parts that has kept the travel section growing.

The site now features a little more complicated programming - suffice to say, I've been experimenting with cookies (which will come as no surprise to any ex-housemates of mine, who know full well it went on from experimentation to full-on abuse years ago. These are the electronic sort though - I just wasn't getting the same hit off the biscuit kind). Anyway, if, by any chance, the Roster page goes a little scooby for anybody then its entirely my fault, so please let me know and I'll fix it.

Finally, the site seems to have got itself a new internet address to sit beside the other two. It makes little difference as the others continue to work, but you can now also find it at http://geocities.datacellar.net/popkid3/meng.

20th October 1999 The site got overhauled today to neaten it up a little after the travel section began to swell a bit beyond expectation. Many thanks to Mike and Caitlin for keeping us so up to date! I've tried to make the change to the new arrangement as smooth and invisible as possible, but if there are any glaring mistakes or links that aren't working please give us a shout and I'll iron out the bugs.
8th September 1999 The travellers section is opened with news of Mike Brownsdon's whereabouts and the route he has traced so far through Africa. Hopefully many more destinations will be added as more of us strike out for warmer and more exotic climes.
24th August 1999 By popular demand Rachel Hankinson and Sid are appointed to the affiliates list.
28th July 1999 The MEng Photo is up now and linked from the members page.
23rd July 1999 Right! You all have no excuse now that the profile form is linked from the bottom of each profile page. Just click there, fill out the details in the pop up window and your profile will be updated as soon as I get the chance. I am hoping to make that happen automatically in the not too distant future, though there are some problems as our host Geocities will not let me run the necessary program on their server. In the event that the Old Boys' Club has to move to a new location rest assured the http://drive.to/meng address will always work. I'll do my best to make sure everybody can find the new site. Oh, and happy Graduation everybody!
14th July 1999 Everybody's e-mail addresses are now up-to-date as far as I know. If you spot any errors, or if something isn't working give me a shout at the usual address(es)
12th July 1999 The highly esteemed Miss Caitlin Topham takes her long overdue place on the affiliates list.
Sometime in early July The site has it's 100th visit! Sadly the administration totally missed this momentous event so no prizes can be awarded. And it's far too late to claim it was you now! Here's to number 1000, if ever there be one.
June 22nd, '99 New affiliates added by (popular!?) request - Rich Gardiner, Phil Tomlin, Rich Light. Our warmest welcomes guys; pull up a chair, have a cigar!
7th June, 1999 The message board is launched, which may yet turn out to be the very linchpin of the site, providing, as it does, the perfect medium for dishing out abuse from a safe distance.
June 3rd 1999 The site is uploaded into its specially prepared Geocities directory. This day was effectively its launch, but such intense holidaying had gripped the newly retired student body that the news took some time to get around.
End of May/
Early June, 1999
Seemingly having been very wicked in some former life Dan comes straight out of exam hell into a couple of days of intense web-design and interrogation of Rich W for ideas. It was a very productive time (it's amazing what he'll come up with when he should be revising!) and there were plenty of things thought up that we don't quite know how to do or what to do with yet. In fact the hardest part was coming up with a solution to the problem: "How do you draw wood?". I tell you, it's a hell of a lot easier than drawing a brass plaque - hence the style of fixtures and fittings that adorn the walls of the club. Anyway, in no time at all it was complete and ready to be unleashed on a waiting world.
