Other Mark Knopfler works

This is a brief review of the albums released by Mark Knopfler without Dire Straits.

1) Soundtracks

Local Hero (1983)

The best soundtrack made by Knopfler, with Celtic influences, and a main theme that has become a classic closing for all his concerts.

Cal (1984)

A wonderful soundtrack, featuring the works of two excellent guest Celtic musicians, Paul Brady and Liam O'Flynn, that is absolutely worth the buy. It's the first work with the keyboardist, Guy Fletcher, who has collaborated in all Knopfler's recordings s ince this.

The Princess Bride (1987)

A good soundtrack for a nice and a bit silly picture.

Last Exit to Brooklyn (1989)

This is a very rude picture. However, the soundtrack contains some of the most delicate melodies composed by Mark Knopfler. It's his most classical recording.

Screenplaying (1993)

This is a compilation of the best pieces of the four soundtracks composed by Knopfler.

Wag The Dog (1998)

Interesting set of instrumental pieces, on the country/blues style. Also includes a good singed song.

Metroland (1998)

2) Collaborations

Missing... Presumed Having a Good Time (The Notting Hillbillies, 1990)

This album is a collaboration with Steve Phillips and Brendan Crocker, two excellent British bluesmen, and, the inevitable, Guy Fletcher. It contains excellent songs, almost forgotten, from classic composers of Country, Gospel and Blues, including a song composed by Knopfler, Your Own Sweet Way. Excellent.

Neck & Neck (with Chet Atkins, 1990)

This is a gem recording, with one of the best Country musicians. The solos and duets are superb.
