Emmanuelle, on t'aime!
Emmanuelle Beart does not want World Peace.
The World Emmanuellist Headquarters.
First, too many words.
The main reason for this site's existence is just above.Emmanuelle Beart is the
single most beautiful actress in the World. In my opinion. And her films are
damn good too. Because they're French. I have a few reservations about Mission: Impossible
though. It's a good movie, but it seems to me that Mademoiselle Beart got the shit
end of the stick. Here are a few of her films that I recommend, in the hope that
somebody is interested in my opinion.
Manon des Sources. is the sequel to Jean de Florette (staring Djerard Depardioo, but not
Emmanuelle Beart). Both are based on books by Marcel Pagnol. To summarise, Ugolin (Daniel Auteuil)
falls madly in love with Manon (Emmanuelle Beart) after seeing her dancing and playing the harmonica
stark naked. And who wouldn't? Teh trouble is that he's partly responsible for her father's death,
and she knoes it, and he thinks she doesn't. Anyway, the scenery is beautiful (parce que c'est en France),
the acting is great, the story is too, and there's a nice little World Class Tragic Twist for the
bad guys at the end.
Nelly et Monsieur Arnaud is arguably Emmanuelle Beart's best film ever. Her part was written
for her, and Claude Sautet's films are always good anyway. It's rather incredibly sophisticated
and suttle, and has a great scene where M. Arnaud watches her sleeping, sighs, and all the guys in
the cinema sigh simultaneaously...
Une femme francaise is about a young woman who marries Pierre (Daniel Auteuil, again, the lucky
bastard) in 1939. Pierre is a soldier and is captured by the Germans. He doesn't get back until 1944,
when he finds that his wife has been living with his best friend. So they get back together and move to
Berlin, where she is seduced by some German bloke with muscles. And there are more wars, they move,
a few children appear. One of them insists on speaking German and looks like the fellow from Berlin, but
Pierre is a gentleman and pretends not to notice. The situation keeps deteriorating and makes you cringe.
I saw the British Premiere at the Institut Francais in London, and my British friends kept muttering
"Jesus man, dump the bitch!". One of them left the auditorium asking rather too loud: "So that's
what a French woman's like, huh?".
La Belle Noiseuse is a four hour film in which Emmanuelle Beart plays a nude artist's model.
What else do you need to know?
L'Enfer was directed by Claude Chabrol which explains why it is so brilliant, with lots of suspense
and stuff. She is in a blissful marriage, but her husband keeps imagining that she is
sleeping with -oooo- just about everybody. It's a load of crap and he admits it in his
moments of lucidity. But he ends up believing it all, and real scenes alternate with imaginary ones.
Can anybody tell me if she has her throat cut at the end or if it's only a halluciantion?
Mission Impossible is alot of fun, but to be honest, it's not due to Emmanuelle Beart much. She
just looks pretty, but not that pretty because they put her in a terrible American suit. You know,
one of those ones with outrageous shoulder pads. But the helicopter in the Channel Tunnel bit rate
as one of the greatest crazy special effects ever, and the exploding chewing gum is good value too. Watch
out for Tom Cruise's elementary mistake at the end, where he tries to get the money first and Emmanuelle
gets shot as a consequence. What a poof!
Un Coeur en Hiver, by Claude Sautet, is about two friends who make and repair violins. One of them is of course
Daniel Auteuil -again- and they both fall in love with Emmanuelle Beart, who is one of their
customers. Except that Auteuil is a cold and insensitive type of man. When Beart says: "J'ai envie de vous", he answers
"Je crois que vous avez mal compris mes sentiments envers vous". Choked cries of WHAT? all round...
Seriously though, it's an excellent film. But then with Beart, Auteuil and Claude Sautet, it would be.
.
Anyway, Emmanuelle Beart makes me proud to be French. As much as Gewurtzraminer and
atom bombs.
It would seem that Emmanuelle Beart does want World Peace after all. And
she's on the war path now, trying to get it. This was news a couple of weeks ago,
anyway. For all you Beartists who find your information on CNN, here's a little
summary.
Some people may have the distinct impression that I'm making this up as I go along.
Well I am. I'm afraid that this site is rather embryonnic at the moment, but serious
improvements are forthcoming, in the form of more pictures, film reviews, a logical organisation
(not a patchy incoherent one like at the moment) and whatever else I can think of
or you suggest.
And now, not enough pictures.
I could have put up more pictures, but I thought that it would be better to stick
to good pictures. The thumbnails are a bit deformed, but the full-sized photographs
are great. This is due to the fact that I'm a World Class Emmanuellist, but not a very
good eychteemellist.
All the Emmanuellist sites that I could find.
A month by the Lake
An obscure title but some good pictures. Not bad for an American...
Belles de jour.
A damn good site.
Le Scarabee
Not just a good Emmanuellist site: Vanessa Paradis, Catherine Deneuve and a myriad of other
French ladies.
Not a bad site, really: pictures, an attempt at some sort of fan club and other Emmanuellist stuff.
