Emmanuelle beart does want World Peace after all. A whole load of illegal African immigrants went on a hunger strike in the Saint-Bernard church in Paris, claiming that they were unable to legalise their status because of new laws on immigration introduced by M.Pasqua a couple of years ago. Their were huge demonstrations in France, and a tidal wave of solidarity for these people swept the country. But those of you who had an interest in the nuclear weapons testing controversy of last year will know that M.Chirac is completely immune to this sort of phenomenon. Anyway, Emmanuelle Beart (Peace and Blessings upon Her) joined the strikers in the church and stayed with them until the doors were broken down and was arrested with everybody else. She was subsequently released.
The protesters were wrong, but then so was the government. A year ago, we elected a center-right government, and everybody knows that one of their dogmas is the strict application of the Law. In France, we have a substantial amount of respect for the Loi. What we have complete contempt for are petty regulations, like how fast you are allowed to drive, how many pousses-cafe we can drink if we're driving home, and what we should say in our tax forms. Everybody knew from the start that the immigrants were going to be kicked out of the church and repatriated. But the silly buggers in the Elysee Palace should have done that immediately instead of waiting until everything deteriorated into an irrecuparable no-win-for-either-side situation.
What I really want to say is that Mme.Beart is now actively campaigning for Human Rights, In the same way as Catherine Deneuve. She has stayed clear of the path chosen by that stupid woman Brigitte Bardot (who isn't as beautiful as Emmanuelle Beart, so there...). She has chosen to fight for the rights of People, not to campaign for Equal Rights for Hamsters and other such pathetic, sentimentalist rubbish. People like Mme.Bardot put absurd ideas into people's heads by misuse of their media influence. On Christmas Day 1995, whilst the BBC was showing the Queen's Speech (That just shows that it was Prime-Time), Channel 4 broadcast Brigitte Bardot for half an hour talking absolute bullshit about being nice to animals at Christmas and letting the turkeys live. Then, at about one in the morning, Catherine Deneuve (May rose petals cushion her footsteps all her life) was given 5 minutes (including the credits) to talk about Human Rights violations in Africa. Geeezuss Kryste! What the hell is wrong with people? We can be proud of Emmanuelle. I was anyway...
