I heard that once John broke open a trophy case. The Doors albumm "Waiting for the Sun" had gone gold. John looked at his award, and could tell from the distance between the lines on the record that this wasn't "Waiting for the Sun". He broke it open and played it. The record wasn't The Doors.

Another interesting fact is his father's and brother's names. His father's name is Ray. His brother's name was Jim. Jim killed himself with a kitchen knife. I can't really explain the circumstances.
