Despite the current state of the rock scene as a whole and the closure over the past cople of years of some of the Citys best venues, Nottinghams Rock scene is suprisingly lively. Here then is my unbiased guide to Nottingham pubs for those who like their music LOUD!!!!!

'OWD BOOTS'
Glasshouse Street Nottm.(Behind Victoria Centre) Tel (0115) 958 0664

Running a rock night every Friday (7.30pm - 11pm) which is deejayed by myself, Owd Boots is Nottm's newest rock pub Playing a mixture of classic and commercial rock with mega cheap drinks (£2.00 for a Double Jack daniels and mixer)
although only it only has one specific rock night the jukebox is excellent with albums by Motley Crue, Thunder, Metallica etc... Also has live music most Thursdays (check back for details)

'THE FLETCHER & FIRKIN (upstairs)
1 Castle Road Nottm (Facing Nottm Castle) Tel (0115) 941 3311
With a DJ upstairs on Fridays (Brummy Joe) & Saturdays (Me) (7.30pm - 11pm) and a brilliant Jukebox downstairs. The F+F is also home to the DREGS MCC who spend most of their time in a drunken daze and often perform the worlds funniest dance routine to Motorhead's version of Louie Louie

The music policy ranges from the latest tunes from the likes of Sepultura and Rob Zombie to classics from AC/DC and Black Sabbath.
The beer is as you would expect from a Firkin pub with all the usual beers such as DogBolter available at the usual extortinate Firkin prices.

'The TAP & TUMBLER
Wollaton Street Nottm. Tel (0115) 941 3414
Most peoples last stop before a night in Rock City. Many People (sadly) actually never venture further than the T&T. With a Jukebox containing the likes of White Zombie and quite a lot of Goth Tunes, the T&T is regarded by many as Nottms only rock pub. Strange really as it attracts quite a large number of suits in the daytime. By no means a bad pub (although the beers a bit dodgy) but the repetivness of the juke box tendsto annoy. The T&T is also apathy city, The regulars won't venture anyware thats not within a two minute walking distance but will moan all night about having no-where to go. My advice is go in and have one just before going to Rock City

And thats about it as regards rock specific pubs although rock nights can be found in Gedling (Grey Goose - Monday nights), Beeston (Durham Ox - Thursday nights) and Ilkeston (Ancient Druids - Thursday Nights) More info as and when I get It.

ALSO WORTH A VISIT (not rock specific pubs but not full of townies):-

THE BELL INN -Angel Row, Superb range of real ales in the centre of town

THE FAIR & FIRKIN -Goldsmith Street, Next door to Rock City puts on regular indie bands and occasionally has something heavier...

LANGTRYS - South Sherwood Street, Loads of real ales APPLEJACKS - Upper Parliament Street, Nottm's only cider house , sells harmfully strong stuff.

YE OLDE TRIP TO JERUSALEM - Brewhouse Yard Castle Road, Just down the road from the Fletcher & Firkin. The Trip is the oldest inn in England. Favourite with bikers in the summer.

RUNNING HORSE - Alfreton Road, virtually monopolises Nottms blues scene. Holds regular gigs from the likes of the Hamsters, Dumpys rusty nuts etc. OLD ANGEL - Stoney Street, Features lots of alternative bands in its upstairs room. Used to be very alternative but now plays too much dance music.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS:-
YATES'S -Market Square, General meeting place for every dickhead in town

LIBERTYS - Upper parliament street, self styled king of bars (yeah right)

HORN IN HAND - Goldsmith Street, Used to be Fagins nottms best rock pub, now a mecca for students and shit beer

BERLINS - Hockley, Tried a rock night for about five minutes before deciding to revert to yet another chart orientated shithole

EDWARDS - Upper Parliament street, once a great pub for all tastes now tries to be upmarket
