The latest offering from Dream Theater is called Falling Into Infinity and will be available in stores on September 23rd. The CD fills up 78 minutes and packs a serious punch.
Dream Theater's lineup includes regulars James LaBrie (lead vocals), John Myung (bass and chapman stick), John Petrucci (guitars and vocals), and Mike Portnoy (drums and vocals). Making his first album appearance is Derek Sherinian (keys and vocals) who joined Dream Theater at the start of the tour for the last album, Awake. He replaces Kevin Moore who is now working with Fates Warning.
As always, the intensity of Petrucci's guitar work is an illuminating force. The heaviest track is entitled Just Let Me Breathe which showcases the thunderous rhythm section of Myung and Portnoy. Doug Pinnick of King's X is the guest vocalist on the song Lines In The Sand, a track which is an amazing 12 minutes long. The ballad Anna Lee stands out and features lyrics by James LaBrie. Derek Sherinian is a welcome addition to the fold.
