Pantera explodes on their first live recording, Official Live 101 Proof. The CD includes sixteen tracks, two of which are brand new studio recordings (Where You Come From and I Can’t Hide). The rest of the tracks are live renditions of songs from their four studio albums, Cowboys From Hell, Vulgar Display Of Power, Far Beyond Drive, and last year’s The Great Southern Trendkill. The official “single” off the CD is Cemetery Gates with it’s tasty guitar licks and melodic hard edge sound. The group, Philip Anselmo (vocals), Dimebag Darrell (guitars), Vinnie Paul (drums) and Rex (bass) recorded the songs in 1996/97 during their U.S. TourKill. Says Vinnie Paul, “We felt like after 7 years of playing live, that we wanted to put out a record with all our best tunes. Songs that have our own TLC instead of all that foolishness that happens when a band puts out a greatest hits album or some overdubbed live album.”
Pantera has stayed true to their form and put out an album that captures their energy and fury. The CD is scheduled to hit stores July 29 and will be followed by a video called 3 (Watch It Go). Pantera just came off a successful run with the Ozzfest tour and will be headlining a tour of the U.S. beginning this September.
