The band's lineup remains virtually intact since it formed in Sydney, Australia nearly 20 years ago -- Michael Hutchence (Lead Vocals), Andy Farris (Keyboards, Guitar, Harmonica), Tim Farris (Guitar, Vocals), Kurt Pengilly (Guitar, Saxaphone, Vocals), Jon Farris (Drums), and Gary Beers (Bass Guitar).
Singer Michael Hutchence commented that, to a performer, a New York audience is the scariest audience in the world. After thrashing around the floor a bit during New Sensation, he noticed that he had ripped a hole in the leg of his pants. "Life on the road, it's not all glamour, your suit gets all fucked up." Furthermore, "It's my stage, I think I'll just light one up."
While performing "The Devil Inside", Hutchence dropped to the floor of the stage and allowed himself to be mauled by a long-haired girl whom he pulled from the front row. Bedlam ensued. One by one, people from the audience climbed onstage and formed a dancing mob of bodies. The stage security made no attempt to stem the tide. By the time the final encore ended, you could not see the members of the band as they were obscured by the 100 or more fans who had formed an impromptu discotheque in every available space on the stage.
INXS will perform in Connecticut this week, stopping at the Mohegan Sun Casino (September 20) and also the Oakdale Theater (September 22). For more concert dates, see our Concert Calendar.
As far as the Connecticut venues, the seats are nice, the drinks are good, but don't expect the Connecticut shows to deliver the raw energy of a steamy little grotto like the Beacon Theater.
