RHINOCEROS, from Gish, Smashing Pumpkins

- Aside from the solo, this is unquestionably the easiest song by the Pumpkins

  to play. It sounds great with two guitars.

Intro:  Guitar1, (clean)

=====   =======

          |----------------------------------------|

          |----------------------------------------|   repeat this for

          |----------9---------9/11--11--11-11-----|   several bars...

          |----------------------------------------|

          |----------7---------7/-9---9---9--9-----|

          |--0---0-------0-0---0-------------------|

        Guitar 2, (flanger and some delay), let top 2 strings ring

                                           (ring, guitar 2 takes a breather)

VERSE:     Guitar 1, (clean)

======

                        pow-der show (?), treasoned my roots....

          |-------7------7/-9---9--9--9-----7---11--9--7----9---------------

          |-0--0-----0-0----------------0-0---0------------10---------------

    - This is the repeating riff in the song; at the D-chord, guitar 2

    arpeggiates the 6 strings.

    - after Billy says "...see you in June...", guitar 1 repeats the intro riff

     while guitar 2 lays this 'Gershwin' riff over it:

          |------------------------------------------------------------------

          |------------------------------------------------------------------

          |----14/16--16-16-16/19--19-19-19\16--16-16-16\14-14-14\13-13-13-13

          |------------------------------------------------------------------

          |----12/14--14-14-14/17--17-17-17\14--14-14-14\12-12-12\11-11-11-11

          |------------------------------------------------------------------

           --------------------------------

           --------------------------------  and so forth...

           --11/13-13-13-13/14--14-14-14---

           --------------------------------

           ---9/11-11-11-11/12--12-12-12---

           --------------------------------

CHORUS: Guitars 1 + 2,(clean first time, distorted thereafter)

======

        The way......        she knows....

    |----0-----------3----------0-----------------------  If you're playing a

    |----1-----------3----------3-----------------------  strat, switch to the

    |----0-----------0----------2-----------------------  bottom pick-up to

    |----2-----------0----------0-----------------------  emphasize top string

    |----3-----------2---------------------------------- on that D chord thing

    |----------------3----------------------------------

      C mjr        G mjr      D whatever

BRIDGE: Guitar 1, guitar 2 solos overtop (bigtime distortion)

=======

        |----------------------------------------

        |------------------------5---5-7--7--7---   you get the picture

        |------------------------5---5-7--7--7---

        |-7---7-5---7---5-7-5----5---5-7--7--7---

        |-7---7-5---7---5-7-5----3---3-5--5--5---

        |-5---5-3---5---3-5-3--------------------

2nd VERSE: join Gershwin riff to the previous repeating riff during

+======== "...open your eyes, to these must I lie?..." and add the bend:

          |---0-------------

          |---0-------------

     .... |--11b1211b12-----    once

          |---0-------------

          |---9-------------

          |--10-------------

FINAL VERSE: James plays C G D progression while Billy lays these overtop:

===========

  |----------------------------   ---------------------------------------------

  |---------------------------- a ---------------------------------------------

  |---------------------------- n ----11-12--11h12p11p9------------------------

  |---------------------------- d ----------------------12---10-9--------------

  |-(10)b9--7--5--5--7--5--7--9   --------------------------------12-10-9------

  |----------------------------   ----------------------------------------12-10

  The last chord is that weird D. Hold till fade, then take a step towards the

 amp and weave some magic.
