April,May,and June 2007 Diary
04/10/07 Diary
Marianne haven’t been out for the past two weekends due to family commitments.
One of my sisters and her husband visited me on the boat the weekend of March 30th, and I took my room mate to an Easter dinner last Sunday.
I did get to the boat on Friday the 6th to work on the bilge pump switches, and tighten the stuffing box on the starboard prop. I am still getting a trickle of water in the bilge from some place, but have not been able to find the source.
I had planned to go out Friday night, but the Queen Mary’s Observation Bar has been closed for renovation, and will be closed for six weeks, and there is a new race activity now on the weekend before the Grand Prix that has access to and from the Marina all screwed up. I wasn’t feeling in the mood to go home either, so I just sat on the aft deck and drank gin with my friends the happy duck couple.
I went back to the boat today (the 10 Th.) to check to see if there was still a trickle, and didn’t see one. I closed both engine sea water through hull valves for added insurance, because I will not get back there until next Monday. I am having the cataract in my right eye removed tomorrow, so I won’t be able to drive for a few days, and the Long Beach Grand Prick race is this weekend so access to the marina is a mess.

My second Cataract operation was on April eleventh, and I am almost back to normal. I was able to drive to Scott and Leslie’s Cactus Castle for an overnight visit on the twenty first and I spent last weekend on the boat.
I just realized that I forgot to bring the pictures home that I took at the Castle, so I will need to add them to this issue next week.
The good news is that the Observation Bar is open again and James King was there last weekend. It was suppose to be closed for up to six weeks, but I think they must have run out of money, because I couldn’t see much change in the room. The only thing that I noticed was the video camera and the monitor on the stage.
I had a good time. There was one old bald Australian guy that hit on me. He looked like a cute little pixie but didn’t like the USA, and let me know it. I listened to him politely for as long as I could then blew him off and went dancing. He tried to hit on me again later but saw that I wasn’t buying it.
A woman that used to be a regular at the OB came in and sat next to me at the bar. She delighted in telling anyone that would listen to her that I “wasn’t what I seemed to be”. This bitch is the whore of the OB. She’s married but used to leave with a different guy every week.
I was so happy that the OB was open again and that my favorite Bar Tenders were still there that neither the Aussie, or the Whore could dampen my fun. I stayed until the midnight break.
I was too keyed up to go to sleep when I got back to the boat, so I played my DVD of “Pricila, Queen of the Dessert” on and watched that until three AM. The movie is about three Drag Queen Performers in Australia that buy a bus to get them to Alice Springs in the middle of the Dessert for a gig. They run into a lot of negative people regarding their sexual orientation and their profession on their trip. I am glad I blew the Aussie Pixie off.
No weekend on the boat would be complete if I didn’t have some kind of problem with the old girl. This time it was the Starboard engine.
I ran the port engine to get some oil up into the engine, but there wasn’t any power to the Starboard side of the control panel so couldn’t start that engine. There’s a loose wire somewhere but I didn’t want to get into tracing it late Sunday evening, so I packed up and went home.

What a month it has been! I have been very busy with family issues, and very little time as Marianne.
We had a big wedding for my youngest Daughter with many of my out of town family, and friends visiting, and lots of planning, preparation, and parties to attend. The Wedding was perfect and that is all I will say about that now.
I did manage to escape to the SRO in San Diego for Cinco De Mayo before the madness started, and had a ball there.
As I walked into the SRO, one of the guys announced that her Majesty the Queen has arrived. I asked him how he knew that I was the Queen and he said that my picture had been in all the papers lately. I enjoyed playing the part all night, and I was having so much fun that I forgot to take any pictures.
I made it to the boat last weekend, and went to Busters Friday night and to the Queen Saturday night.
I spent Friday and Saturday mornings working on the Starboard engine and managed to get most of what needed to get done. I will need to finish it next weekend before I can run it.
Busters was fun as usual and I did remember to got a couple of pictures there.
The Queen was a bust. There was a large wedding party that took over the Observation Bar, and the band wasn’t playing very good dance music. I sat at the bar, had my two martinis and left. I was too tired to go anywhere else so I went back to the boat and slept for twelve hours.
I came home Sunday night

The weekend did not start out very good, but ended with a blast!
I did a little work on the boat when I arrived there about noon Saturday. I wasn’t in the mood to start any big projects, so I just did a little cleaning.
I called the Observation Bar to find out what the entertainment was for that night, and was told that there wasn’t going to be any band. It was another private party :-(. I decided to stay home and watch a movie.
The West Hollywood Gay Pride Festival was last weekend and I had forgotten about it, but luckily I was reminded about it when I turned the radio on Sunday morning. I got ready to go there as soon as I had Breakfast.
I thought I had a plan on how I was going to get to my favorite parking lot on the corner of San Vincent and Santa Monica that I have always been able to get into during the Pride Festival, but didn’t count on the street closure for the parade. It took me an extra hour to get around the blocks until I finally got to the parking lot and had no problem getting a parking spot. The attendant recognized me and put my car where I could get at it later.
My first stop was the Cafe D’ . Tom, the owner greeted me at the door, and my favorite bartender, Jake shouted Marianne where have you been? He made me a killer Gin Martini.
I went into the festival grounds after I finished the martini. There was a dance pavilion near the entrance, and I started there. Immediately, a guy I recognized came over to me to ask if I remembered him. I couldn’t remember his name or where I knew him from, but I remember that he was very nice.
I had a ball dancing with a bunch of guys, and took some pictures.
I walked around the grounds for a while, and got very tired, so I went back to the Cafe D’. The martini was getting to me also and I needed to sit down. I had a pasta dinner on the patio. A very nice guy sitting near me complemented me and asked where my boyfriend was. I told him the position was open.
All in all, I had a ball. I drove home to the boat about six p.m.
I came home Monday morning.
06/19/07 Diary
Since it was the third Saturday of the month, and the SRO was having their special girls night out, I had decided to go to San Diego last weekend. It turned out that Leslie had to be in San Diego on the 18th and 19th for some training and tests for her new career in the insurance business, and she was planning for her and Scott to go there for the weekend, so we met at the Union Station Saturday afternoon and took the Surf Liner to San Diego.
We had reservations at the EZ-8 Motel in Old Town. We took the trolley to Old town from the Amtrak Station and checked in. I was surprised to learn that EZ-8 charges your credit card account as soon as you make the reservation instead of holding it as a deposit until you arrive. I asked them to reverse that charge because I wanted to pay cash, but they had a problem doing that because their computer wasn’t working right. I am going to use the Old Town Inn the next time in San Diego. They hold the deposit for you unless you don’t show, plus you get a free breakfast for about the same room price as the EZ-8.
I traveled in Drab, and started changing to Marianne as soon as I got in my room. I had brought two long dresses with jackets, and one shorter skirt, a few tops, and a jacket. One of my long dresses is a new light black chiffon with a jacket, and I wanted to wear that because I haven’t had a chance to wear it yet, but I backed off that idea because it would be out of place where we were going for dinner. I wore my skirt and blouse, and a new wig.
We walked to the Taxi Stand at the Trolley Station and went to the Elephant and Castle Restaurant at the Holiday Inn. We took a cab to the SRO after dinner.
We were able to get three seats at the bar after I asked a good looking, tall young man to move over a bit. I ordered my usual double Gin Martini. I started a conversation with the young Man and found out he was a Submarine Sailor. He didn’t seem too interested in me at first, but loosened up as he had more beer.
I was so busy working this guy that I forgot to take any pictures all night.
My Sailor friend was calling me honey by eleven o’clock and Gorgeous by midnight. I bought him one last drink and he wanted to take me home. I got him out of there before he could change his mind. I wasn’t sure if he was going to take me to his place or mine, but he asked me where I was staying when I got in the car, so we went to my room.
He stayed with me and didn’t leave until about Nine the next morning ;-)
I called Scott and Leslie after my friend left to see what their plan was for the day. We decided to take the Trolley to down town for breakfast.
I needed to check out by eleven, so I packed up and got ready to haul my stuff to the Trolley. We went to the Elephant and Castle Restaurant at the Holiday Inn again for lunch, then walked back to the Amtrak Station for my 12:55 train back to LA.
The train had some mechanical problems, so we were a little late getting to Union Station, but I still made it back to the boat in plenty of time to have some food and salute the Queen at the Six O’clock horn. I was home by eight.

I wasn’t planning on a good weekend, but was pleasantly surprised to get an e-mail from Michelle Friday that said she was going to be out that weekend and wanted to know if I was interested. I was very interested! I haven’t seen Michelle for quite a while.
My relationship with my room mate has been estranged lately, and I needed to abandon ship, so I was eager to get out and have some fun. I wasn’t able to get loose Friday but I got to Long Beach early Saturday morning and tidied up a bit then got into my Marianne dress and attitude.
Michelle had been to the Observation Bar Friday night, and said that James King (Elvis) was playing, so we agreed to go there Saturday night. Michelle picked me up at nine o/clock, and we went to the Queen Mary.
The usual James King groupies were there, and we found a table near them. James welcomed us, and I ordered my usual martini. No one was dancing yet (e.g. drunk enough to get out on the dance floor), so eventually I got up and danced for one song, but no one joined me so I sat down for a while and had a nice conversation with Michelle.
Michelle has lost a lot of weight and looked fabulous. She always looked good, but she was outstanding in her new frame. She actually has curves! She was the first one to be invited to dance to a slow one by a nice young guy.
Eventually the crowd got into the mood, and started dancing, so I got plenty of exercise. I can’t sustain the non-stop dancing that I used to be able to do.
We had a ball, and I was able to keep going until closing time. Michelle took me home to the boat about two a.m. and I crashed.
I didn’t get out of bed until nine Sunday morning. There was a lot of things that need to get done on the boat, so I got into my work clothes and changed the pencil zinc on the port heat exchanger. That is a job I hate because I need to crawl over the engine to get at it.
My other thing that needed fixing was the head flushing switch that was leaking. It isn’t dirty water, but the slow drip was annoying. I took it apart and changed the input hose. It didn’t leak until I put it back together, then it was dripping again. That’s the way I left it.
I got back into Marianne mode and went to the Blue Cafe for the Mama’s Boys Blues and lunch.
The monthly Blues Cruise is next Friday night and I bought tickets from Johnny for myself, Leslie and Scott.
I had a nice late lunch, and danced for a while. I left when the Mama’s Boys took their break, and went back to the boat.
I cleaned up and packed up, then went home to keep my room mate from flipping out.
