Welcome to my homepage dedicated to my favourite artist of all time...Agnetha Fältskog A Short History Agnetha Fältskog was born in the city of Jönköping, in the south of Sweden on April 5th, 1950. Agnetha was exposed to music and performance from a young age because her father, Ingvar, was a local theatre manager. Agnetha's first time on stage happened when she was five years old, by which time she had written a little nursery rhyme called "Two Small Trolls", and had taken up the piano. This particular encounter Agnetha had was very memorable because as she stood before her audience and sung her heart out, her pants fell down! Luckily this didn't put her off singing, because at the age of fifteen, Agnetha left school and joined Bernt Enghardt's orchestra as a singer. Then, in 1967, her break through came when local music legend Little Gerhard discovered Agnetha, and she subsequently began to record her own songs. The first of which was called "I Was So In Love" and it soared to the top of the charts. From 1967 until 1970, Agnetha experienced great success in Sweden, but not-so-great success in Germany. Agnetha had tried her luck in Germany when it was suggested to her by her German fiancee Dieter Zimmerman. Unforunatley, the Germans didn't take to this young Swede as well as those back home did. Agnetha and Dieter broke up in the late sixties, and Agnetha had no serious relationships until, well...1969. In 1969, she met her husband-to-be, Björn Ulvaeus, who was a member of the popular Swedish folk group, The Hootenanny Singers. They were engaged in 1970, and married in 1971. |

The ABBA Years Björn was already, in 1971, in a partnership with Benny Andersson and Stig Anderson (not related). Benny and Björn were producers in Stig's record company, Polar. This affiliation meant that it was only natural for Agnetha to be involved with Polar. As it turned out, Benny's fiancee was also in the music business, as was Benny. Anni-Frid (Frida) Lyngstad was a jazz singer and Benny was in a popular Swedish group, The Hep Stars. In the coming years, Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid would join their musical talents, and form ABBA. ABBA brought this young quartet millions of fans, records and dollars throughout the 1970's and early 80's. The first global ABBA experience that occurred was in 1974 when they entered and won the EuroVision Song Contest with their song "Waterloo". This was the first of many number one songs that ranged from 1974, until 1980. Such songs were: Waterloo (1974) : Mamma Mia; SOS; I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do (1975) : Fernando; Dancing Queen; Money Money Money; Knowing Me, Knowing You (1976) : Take A Chance On Me; The Name Of The Game (1977) : Voulez Vous; Does Your Mother Know; Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (1979) : The Winner Takes It All; Super Trouper (1980) All of these songs were number one in Australia, Great Britain, or The United States. |

Dancing Queen was ABBA's biggest hit. They sung it at the King Of Sweden's marriage to Queen Silvia, and it was the only number one in the USA that they experienced.
During the ABBA period, Agnetha gave birth to two children. Linda, in 1973, and Christian, in 1977. Linda was a bundle of joy in herself because Agnetha and Björn were having trouble conceiving, so when Linda arrived, it was a double blessing. Christian came in 1977, and rumour has it that he was conceived in the Australian leg of the 1977 World Tour. Björn and Agnetha were a happily married couple for only eight years. They were divorced in 1979, and this was a major blow for Agnetha. The 1979 World Tour ABBA did was a difficult time for Agnetha. She was freshly divorced and she was away from her children, something she could barely stand. However, she faced the music and ABBA marched on, despite what the critics said, until 1982.
