Old News:

It was reported this afternoon that Aleksei Nemov did not take part in a tournament in Moscow due to an leg injury. The injury was called "a minor one" by his coach Arkayev, and Aleksei continues to prepare for the European championships which will take place in St Petersburg, Russia this spring.

Thanks to Victor V. Varganov for that info!

WAIT! Before you do anything else, sign the guestbook!!

(Do not be afraid!)

Hey! Does anyone know what the devil Aleskei is up to these days? I'm more of a Britpop person myself and don't watch much TV, so...Do you have any Aleksei info? Then, don't keep it to yourself!  Tell me and I'll share it on this page.

Ahh, yes!  A whole page devoted to the best male gymnast alive!  Isn't it grand?

Biography:

Aleksei Nemov was born May 28, 1976 in Barashevo, Russia, but lived with his single mother in a small town on the Volga called Tollyati. He started gymnastics at age 5, was quickly judged to be a remarkable talent, and invited to live at the Round Lake training center outside Moscow, where he has been ever since. He made his worlds debut in 93, qualifying first on floor before falling to 5th in finals, then in Brisbane in 94, was first in his qualifying session before crumbling in the AA to come on 12th. But his big breakthrough was at the 1994 Goodwill Games, where he destroyed the competition, won the AA by a huge margin, as well as four event finals. By European Cup in 1995, he was so awesome he only needed an 8.75 on his final event in the AA, the high bar, to win it all, but he had to count four breaks to crumble to 9th. Sabae worlds were even worse, where he had a catastrophic compulsory round, was 96TH, but then was 1st in optionals, but could not legitimately qualify into the AA. But he did win the vault, and in Puerto Rico this past April, he won vault again, along with silver on P-bars and bronze on pommels.

My Personal Intrest in Aleksei:

The first time that I actually watched Aleksei was at the Olympics. I had heard of him before through a friend who is a big gymnastics fan. My brother pointed him out on the TV and said that he looked a lot like his tennis instructor! He sure does! Anyway, I was hooked and spent every night that gymnastics was on glued to the tube. I also like the fact, as others have pointed out, that he is a risky gymnast. He does huge moves, and remains graceful! I wish that I was half that graceful in everyday things!

Hey, ya know what? The Empire's Aleksei Shrine has a picture archive too! Click here to go to the picture archive!

Thanks Candie!!

Also, no, Alexei doesn't speak English. Latrice said, though, that she saw an interview with him in November and that he did speak quite good English. **Meg throws her hands up**

 I don't know!

Write it in English, and I'm sure there'll be a translator!

Speaking of writing in English, many of you have recently emailed me about the spelling of Aleksei's name. To tell the truth, I've seen it both ways. Until one of you can prove that it's spelled your way, BACK OFF! I do appreciate your info, though!
