The self-titled album by Garbage is in one word, outstanding. Their 1st album has songs that rock but at the same time, songs that are nice and slow. Shirley Manson's voice is a great voice that goes along well with the background music
The first song, Supervixen, starts off with a great guitar riff. Then Shirley's soothing voice comes in. She has the capability to sing soft at one point and then turn around and sing loud and hard later on. The next sond, Queer, was a song they released but did not get much play. This is a great, slow moving sounding song. Shirley's voice fits great in this song. The next song, Only Happy When it Rains, is a song everybody knows. This is the song that made the group popular and for good reasons, It's a catchy little song that stays in your head all day. Overall, great song.
Skipping ahead 2 songs, Not My Idea is a great song with a very singable chorus. This is a likeable song and should be the choice for their next single. Skipping ahead again, Stupid Girl, their latest single, shows why this band is so popular. A great melody with good lyrics and a great singing talent makes this song one of the gems on the album. This song grew on me after a while and now it's one of my favorites. I've heard people compare Shirley to Pat Bentar because of this song.
Overall, the album is a great CD to add to your collection. It's well worth the money. Butch Vig, who has worked with Nirvana, among others, does a great production job. So pick it up, you won't be disappointed.
