In December of 1999, back when they were known as the Mason Jennings Band, Mason , Robert and Chris took the stage every Thursday at the 400 Bar. At the third of these shows they debuted two new songs. The first of which was the wonderful drawn out slow-jam "What is This About," which hasn't been heard from since.

The second new song to be played that night was "Confidant." This was not the slower version that eventually made the album, but a faster version with heavy drums and a punkish energy. The crowd was left floored by this performance. Sadly, this version has never been heard from again. As Chris Stock soon left, Mason got mono, and Confidant was redone with Edgar. Don't get me wrong, I love the Confidant that is on Birds Flying Away, I just miss the "fast version."

We present here a recorded copy of the fast version of Confidant from that 400 Bar show. The quality is not great, but does let the listener into the energy and feel that the song presented for that night in December. Enjoy!
