#36

Chris White

Since the new live album is coming out in about 2 weeks, I figured we could talk about the only unreleased song on that album, #36. For those of you who haven't heard it, you will have the chance soon. This song is really cool. It is different from a lot of other songs because it is basically just a jam song. The band could play this tune for hours if they wanted to. The neat thing is that there is a verse for Roi to shine, one for Boyd, and Dave even has a chance to show off his skatting talents. I am interested to hear what other people think about this song.

Chris Abildgaard

i love it! i love all his songs, but Crash into Me is my favorite!

JP

Check out the version from Toronto, 5/11/96. It features G.Love and Special Sauce. Fabulous!

Daniel

#36 is a great dance tune. The drum intro always gets me dancing, and the whole song is groove oriented. It is cool that dave always changes lyrics. His weird voice part inbetween the violin pizzicato solos are cool. Boyd always manages to find a happy, dancing groove for his solos, and LeRoi always ends his sax part really well. The end of the song, when dave talks some more, is usually changed. Sometimes he thanks the crowd, sometimes he sings along with the crowd, or just talks to them. My favorite version is 5/11/96 with G Love. It has some great rhymes near the end, and even dave does some rapping. Great tune. Too bad they didn't play it this summer.

Brett Bordini

I've only heard this song about two and a half times, and the second I found out that it was going to be on the live album, I freaked out. This is one of the band's most infectious grooves...it gets inside of you and won't let go. Even though my exposure to it is limited to a couple of run-throughs from an old bootleg, it is one of my favorite DMB songs. Each member of the band is showcased...from Dave's punchy lyrics to Carter's fluid latin-funk to Roi's shy but insistent soloing to Stefan's warm, melodic playing to Boyd's oh-so-sweet pizzicato playing. You can't help but dance and feel good. Definitely deserves to be song of the week...

song #36 is a great tune! the beautiful melody and words are so fitting for the deep meaning of the song. long live dave and his band who take time out to think about things in this world and put their views into music-the universal language so that one day we all may be able to "eat, drink and be merry!" thanks dmb :)

John Scanlan

it a great song very upbeat and kind of mysterious, I cant wait to hear the version on the new Red Rocks CD.

Mike Beamesderfer

#36 is a great song. Its one of those songs that you only appreciate live. While it kicks ass on tapes and whatnot, this song, like seek up, really shows its true merit live. Ive seen versions of it five minutes long, and then ive seen it performed for a long ass time. Its one of those songs that can mirror the mood of the band. I guess im glad its on the new live album so finally the boys can play it live and i dont have to hear any damn teeny- boppers say "what the hell is this, play crash!!!" whatever.

Gary Hill

great tune. wonder if it will be on the new album..i heard it is on the double live album

amanda

it's cool, it's sweet, it's funky, it's everything i love about dmb!!!!! dave is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

Pat Dobmeier

#36 is such a great song, and i'm kinda excited for all the people who listen to dmb but have never heard it, cuz once they pick up the Live At Red Rocks cd, everyone will absolutely love it...the first time i heard it like 2 yrs ago, it just put me in a groove, and i've loved it ever since...plus its about a cool guy... its is awesome...peace--pat

Brendan

I haven't heard this song yet for myself, but I look forward to hearing it on the new live album. I'm sure it won't disappoint!

Jill "Dancing 8 Tattoo" Miksch

*sigh* yet another song by DMB that lives up to his others. i love it.

Ferris

#36 is easily one of DMB's best unreleased songs! It is a great groove and the way dave changes the words every time is a very cool thing, a la Say Goodbye or Granny. There is some really unreal scat in this song too. GREAT SONG!

mikey

#36 is an excellent display of DMB's instrumentation and their intuitive sense of music. but, let's face it #41 is their best number

courtney

LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVEIT!

Laura

Hey, I love this song. I think it's upbeat and energatic and it always get's mets me grooving. I know the song is about a sad topic but I can't help but smiling whenever I hear it live (which is rare). I think with the release of this song on the live album will cause the guys to start playing it more. I haven't decided yet If I am happy about that though. I do not want it to become the next Crash or Satellite but realisticlly we know that won't happen so I guess I should be happy to be able to have a nice clear copy of the song instead of relying on Bootlegs to hear it. Keep on Jammin

Mary Keith

What can I say?? It has the best beat and always makes me feel like dancing... I think this is a great song to move to.  It is so fluid and easy.  Dave and the band wrote it as a tribute to

Tempe Wick

Chris Hani, of South Africa, the day he was assasinated.  It used to go "Hani Hani, come and dance with me"  but it changed into "Honey, honey....."  I first heard it on a bootleg CD, and loved it.

Amy Mulry

I first heard that song from my roomate here at college.  I really liked its groove and jam-out factor.  You just have to dance when you hear it.  I think it's really interesting since it was written for a friend of Dave's who was murdered, I think.  I could be wrong but it definitely gives the song a twist.

Luke Foust

I was just listening to the version of #36 on the Red Rocks CD. Man, what an awsome drum intro.  I have only heard this song at one concert and now I am happy to have it on CD.  I think this is one of the best DMB songs out there.  You can't beat Carter jamming out no matter how hard you try.

ZEP

#36 is a good jam.....but it cant hang with warehouse

mike anderson

i am listening to this song right now. it is off of live from red rocks. i really like this song. i think that it is better live than when it is produced from within the studio.

Joe Kelly

36 is an uplifting song that you can not resist jiving to. Every member of the band contributes in some way making the song one the bands most enjoyable songs. Although it is knida difficult to pick the words.

Ang

I love it.  it is mellow, but so great, the way Dave sings tribute to Chris Hani, but makes it into such a happy song. doesn't it seem that way?

ruth

I really like Red Rocks.  I think DMB is at their best when they're jammin and this is one of their best songs....upbeat, jazzy...you can really feel how they gel and Dave just doesn't do scat enough....

Michael McCartin

This si probably in my top 10 all time dave songs...i love when they jam it out..i have some amazing recordings of it...i wish that they would play it more often. i am so glad that it is on the live from red rocks cd.

Danny

A groovy, happy tune that makes you feel good.  There are no real structured rules about this song, from lyrics to the music.  It's just a straight out chillin' time, with Dave babbling for as long as he likes.

Stephanie

This is just another one of those DMB songs that will never die.

JM DIRESTA

Right now my toes are tapping, my head slightly nodding, my fingers typing with a certain rhythym.  Why?  #36! The very thought of this song gets me moving.  For those who've heard 2/23/95, when it was played Recently --> Water/Wine Jam --> #36, you know what I mean.  Who needs understandable lyrics when you've got a groove like that?  This song is infectious, plain and simple, and it's going to surprise a lot of people on October 28.  It'swell composed, it's energetic, it's vibrant, it's meaningful, it's grooving, but most of all, #36 is A TON OF FUN!!!!

Doug Tewksbury

This is a one of DMB's better songs. It is so varied in the music styles that are played.  With the drum solo, plucking solo and horn solo all in one.The beat of the song is great, and the song seems really upbeat.

Graham Belchers

Great song!!!  Just like all of them!!!

Mike

this is just an awesome song and to be able to hear it is a blessing

Tom

It's a great song, and I like the opening with the drums and guitar riff

Court

I've never heard this song!!!!!!!!  But if it's by DMB, it's probably good!

LATSAMY B

HONEY, HONEY...HANI, HANI...WHO CARES WHAT HE SAYS, IT'S STILL A BOMB ASS SONG...MAYBE IT SHOULD BE "LATSY, LATSY, COME AND DANCE WITH ME...?"  PRETTY GOOD SUGGESTION, HUH?

Mark Reeder (buddha)

It is a great song. I recieved the 1.26.95 show from a friend in the mail. I looked at the setlist and noticed a song I had never heard before. I listened to it and was quite happy with it. I had the song in my head the whole day. It's a catchy little ditty. I can see why it is the song of the week.

Michael Cassata

I've never heard this song before. However I'm sure its good . Actually i may have heard it in concert. Well any way i cant wait for the new double CD . I'm all over that shit . I hope next song I'll be able to comment better . So for now bu bi . P.S. I've got the Dave dance down pat . Next concert I'm tearin the shit up all over the place . Also has anyone noticed how Seinfeld episodes are starting to suck . They arent what they used to be!!!!!

Dave Jagger

#36 is to me the best segue DMB performs. The way it makes you feel like dancing for 5 or 10 minutes.  There is such freedom for the musicians, And the fans just HAVE to accept Dave's invitation to dance with him.  I mean, what the hell else is better in life than just letting yourself go and "let the music take you home" (wherever home might be for you).  Also, this is the best opportunity to hear a little Davespeak at the new mainstream shows.  Nice choice.

Bernie Manchester

As dave says it is a song about dancing and making love and dancing and making love and dancing.

Danny

Not a bad song.  I like it even though I have only heard it a couple of times.
