Proudest Monkey's Review

I have a feeling that a lot of people don't like this song that much. Well, Recently is one of my favorites. The RTT version is not that good but some other live versions are unbelievable. If you have not heard the "pretty pretty girl" in middle jam section, get your hands on a live tape somehow. The "some people do, some people don't" intro is awesome and so is "On Brodaway" and "i once had a girl and she once had me." This song always has different parts added or taken out, but I can listen to it over and over. My favorite part might seem weird to certain people...Leroi's part on "people stare, and we just ignore"...Those few notes rock. I tend to pick out very small and insignificant parts to songs...mainly because I have heard them so many times..So if you don't know what the hell I am talking about don't worry. Anyway, Recently is a groovy song, one they played at both shows i have gone to...My advice: get as many copies of this song because you never know what to expect.

Think about this: imagine if Recently had never been recorded! I think that the band should not have put this song on R2T, just because it's such a jam song, and it fits into the "never recorded" category. To be completely honest, I think that the r2t version is a little weak, but I absolutely love it live. ON BRoADWAY, SOME DO... and especially PRETTY PRETTY GIRL all bring this song to its full potentail. But truly, tihs song is all about Stefan his bass lines make it what it is. A good song, especially live.

I think the best parts about Recently would have to be the intros, like On Broadway, and the covers like Norwegian Wood that Dave adds. Also a good jamming song!

i have never heard this song in my life. really. but somehow, whenever i'm in a quiet room, it comes into my head. recently. recently. recently. it's ok... i would personally like to thank the poster for posting this song so that i could realize that this is an acutal dmb song, and not just a figment of my dysfunctional mind.

Great Song!!

I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is one of my favorites. Some people shrug this song off, but I love it!! The best part is the intro with Boyd doing his pluck playing, Carter playin' a funky rythm on the hi hat, Steffan layin' a steady back up line, Roi's here and there sax voice, and of course Dave's lead guitar line ROCKS!! The jam in the middle is pretty cool too, even though I'm not crazy about the part that sounds like a barnyard dance, I love how it goes back into the same rythm as the begining. I give this song a 10 plus two thumbs up, way up!

Good song

I wish I had the feeling that DAve has in this Song. That would mean that recently I have been dating someone! I wish that I was the girl down the street that Dave has been seeing a lot of! He can see as much as he wants of me!

goo,aalbert@postoffice.ptd.net

It is a decent song. The best version is on the RTT cd. I love the instrumental section.

Recently I've been content and dreaming I have been. I honestly think that Remember Two Things is the best DMB album despite many people thinking that it is UTTAD. I think "Recently" personifies Dave's attitude towards everything in the world "he just ignores" and doesn't really seem to care. This might also explain his constant use of the words F--K IT!

I honestly feel that this is the best riff Dave ever wrote. It's so simple, so versatile. Not only does it have numerous intros/outros/vocal jams, but it's just fun to play. I've jammed it out, all by myself, singin the different jams to myself, making up my own (Walk This Way, by Aerosmith, fits quite nicely.) and it never ceases to be fun. Recently is Dave at his coyest, his cleverest, his best, and that's what makes it one of my all-time favs.

Reminds me of good times...starting college way back when, listening to this song and realizing how "recently i've been all of content and dreaming"

Andi,cowboy@intrlink.com

I love it! It is a great song! (so are the other ones though)

Matt Eichelberger,eichelbe@mc.edu

I don't listen to "Recently" as much as some of the other songs, but I definitely enjoy it. It's pretty uplifting, kinda saying that you should do whatever pleases you, and not worry about pleasing other people.

Kate Chrisman, KCHRISMA@iris.wmwoods.edu

I just purchased "Recently" and the girls that live around me in my dorm are already getting sick of it. I don't know how they possibly could get sick of any of the songs on there, though. I mean, what could be better than beautifully sung versions of Warehouse or Dancing Nancy (not to mention the kick-ass version of All Along the Watchtower that I jam to every morning as I put on my makeup. I would actually love for next week's song to be All Along the Watchtower or maybe #41 from Crash.

Nikki McColgin,nikki_mccolgin@vnet.ibm.com

Great song!!!!! Saw it with Dave & Tim!!!

Andy Killius,Timagami@aol.com

You cannot beat the variety of intros to this song. I always look for it on bootlegs b/c it usually has something a little different to it. The Broadway opening is definetly my favorite. 1
