--== Billy poem ==-- by tilton@girard1-le1.ckt.net (Martha L. Tilton) There once was a beautiful girl named Lily Who felt that she'd never be loved, And she sang out her song, a haunting, sad song, In a voice like the coo of a dove. She sang of her longing and sorrow, And all she'd been dreaming of, And her voice filled the air and soared in the sky To the heavens up above. Now, there lived a beautiful boy named Billy, And he was unbearably sad. He felt that his whole life was falling apart, And he'd lost everything he had. There was nothing left for him to live for, Cause no one could understand, So he climbed to the top of the highest tower To end his pain at last. And as he looked down on the heartless world, A sound filled his ears. A voice like a bell, more painfully beautiful Than any you could hope to hear. It sang to his deepest feelings, Told the story of every little tear, And he was touched, and he cried, as he realized That someone who cared was near. He followed her voice back down to the ground, Forgetting all of his strife, And he searched for the source of this beautiful song, The song that had saved his life. And suddenly, there was Lily, Glowing in the sunlight, And he ran to her side and hugged her and kissed her, And swore to make her his wife. Lily saw the love shining in Billy's eyes, And her sadness melted away, And suddenly both of their cold, dark worlds Were as bright as a sunny day. She lost herself in his eyes, Forever she wanted to stay, And without saying a word, they both knew each other In every little way. Billy was enchanted and a little surprised At the happiness their sadness did bring, And Lily felt love for the very first time And she knew she would wear Billy's ring. They held each other blissfully, Both having found everything, And they flew to the moon that same afternoon On a bullet with butterfly wings.
