From: Elizabeth elizabeth@vax2.rainis.net Subject: my thoughts on Job There seems to be quite a bit of talk about Job lately. It seems that few have actually read this book of the bible for anything other than church or some school assignment. I've read and discussed Job quite a few times, and everyone except me and like three of my friends seem to be under the same impression: that God gave Job strength, and Job never 'forgot' God throughout all of his pain and torment. So here is my take on the book of Job. Job was a normal guy, had a couple sons and daughters, a wife, and had a basically good life. He was a very religious man, and sacrificed sheep, prayed, and "feared God." (yes, that is a quote) Well, one day Satan and God were talking and Satan said, y'know, I bet if you started screwin around with Job's life, y'know, killin off his family, whatever, he'd betray you. God, of course, could not believe this. He was just like, phhh, yeah, right. Of *course* he wouldn't. I'm *God*! Satan said that he still didn't believe it, and God just finally said, okay, i'll show ya. So, God killed off Job's kids, washed away his crops, just really screwed with him. Job, at first, delt with it, still prayed, all that, was very faithful. Finally, he just had the last bit he could take. So he freaked. He screamed and yelled and basically what *anyone* would do in his situation. His friends, who lived far away, came to visit him. They tried to comfort him, as did his wife, but to no avail. Job ranted and raved, said that there must be a mistake. This is what is generally referred to as "Job's temptation." I could go on but i'm bored, and u must all be as well. And this is, i'm sure, what Billy meant in BWBW (show all my cool and cold like old Job). Job ranted and raved and "showed all of his cool and cold." anyway, just thought i'd put in my bit... "Either I am dead, or my watch has stopped."
