From: shannon hutson SOH002@VM.CC.LATECH.EDU Subject: geek usa meaning... i always sort of connected thit song with the story of adam and eve. lovers born as innocents, cast into the world with apple eyes. that's what they were. i always thought of the "apple eyes" reference as being symbolism relating to knowledge, the want of knowledge. you know, like the "forbidden fruit" from the tree of knowledge. and even though that story is mostly about adam and eve, we are all like that. we are all born innocent, and we grow up learning more and more about the world and it's pleasure and pain. "and then i knew we'd been forsaken, expelled from paradise"...well, who was supposed to be expelled from paradise? adam and eve. but think of the phrase "ignorance is bliss". well, it is, really. and when any of us learn about life, we lose that innocence, which is in a sense, paradise. i have this friend who used to take a lot of acid, and always have a bad trip, because he would think way too much, try too hard to figure out "life". and the more you understand the way things work, in my opinion, the more depressed you get. the more betrayed you feel. or so it is in my case. "understand what can't be understood"... anyone else have any opinions on this? geek usa has always been one of the most interesting songs, lyrically, IMHO. __shannon
