This is some great news from Eric Gilbert after he attended a recent show!

-talked to adam a little while about Good Luck....he said that the
version from the hollywood grand is pretty messed up, said he was
pretty drunk by then and he forgot how to play it in the middle of
it...i told him it sounded great, he said that it can sound a lot
better :), like Jerry said it might be released on a
soundtrack...said he'd like to play it more, but he just never gets
the chance to work on it much....and he hates that feeling when he's
halfway through a song and he suddenly forgets how to play it :)

-heard several people ask adam about Einstein on the Beach...each
time he of course stated how he hated it, near the end he finally
went off about it (jokingly)...said that he can't stand it, and that,
yes, it is clever, but it really is completely meaningless and he
feels bad about making Dave play such a cheesy song (went on making
fun of it, it was pretty funny)...said he hated the fact that it made
it to the radio, because he never wanted to hear it again, much less
have everyone else hear it....

-talked to adam about the portland show that got canceles and he said
that he was truly sorry and that they had all been really sick, and
then they thought they were better....so they played the Seattle
show, he said that his voice completely blew out...and he had also
been taking a lot of steroids for his vocal chords and the steroids
finally got for him and he couldn't sleep for two days and he just
had to go home....said they'd be back to portland in the summer..

-speaking of the summer....he said that all the venues they plan on
playing will be outside, don't know if that was already known, but i
was happy to hear that....outdoor concerts are the best....said that
they probably wouldn't make it to Idaho though :(

-adam said he's learning portuguese right now, just bought a book and
a tape....just thought it was interesting....

-adam mentioned that Dave writes the setlists because each song means
so much to him that he's tried before but he just ends up fretting
over it forever and usually can't come up with one he's happy
with...so Dave does it...

-adam told the 8 of us to go pick up a Big Star album, i hadn't
really heard of them but he said that they're awesome and a huge
influence in pop music today....

-after the concert someone asked adam what other bands they listened
to and adam said that he had just started listening to this new band
called Built to Spill and he absolutely loves them....well, Built to
Spill is from my hometown of Boise so i of course piped up and then
we started talking about their albums, he especially likes "Big
Dipper" which is a song off of their first album, which is awesome,
it has a smiley face on the front if you go out to look for it, adam
and i both strongly recommend it...they also have a new album called
"Perfect from now on" (i think)...it is also really good....that was
just so weird, i knew that BtoS was starting to gain some
attention....but to gain adam duritz's attention....now that's a
feat....guess they're the pride of Boise now, eh? :)

-Dave said that they plan to quit touring in december and then head
to the studio again....

-talked to charlie for quite awhile, he really is a great guy....he
said that they just finished taping the Daylight Fading video in a
desert in California i believe, but he wasn't sure when it would be
done...said that Catapult will be the single after it, talked about
the Catapult video, said it was pretty weird....i guess their in this
room in this building and the building is slowly destroyed floor by
floor and they slowly work themselves down....sounded pretty cool...

-adam said that they're going to have this video coming out soon, not
sure when, but it's going to have the 9/4/96 Fillmore show on it, or
atleast parts of it, and i guess they filmed the whole day when they
recorded Mercury and a lot of that is going to be on it too....it
sounded really cool, i can't wait until that comes out....

-Jerry mentioned that dave (i think) had said that adam had just
written 3-4 new songs.....i don't know, but i asked adam if they had
any new material other than "barely out of tuesday" and he said
no...but there were kinda a lot of people around at the time, so he
may have just not wanted to say anything about them....

-asked Dan why they don't play HYSMLately? much, he said that it
really strains adam's voice....i kinda thought that its meaning
probably plays a big part in that....but on the way home, when i was
singing that song, i noticed that it really is the song that puts the
most strain on your voice, so that does make sense....wish they
would/could play it more, because it really is a great song....

-adam said that he shaved his beard because a girl (i assumed
Courtney) had told him that it would look good....then she decided
that maybe he should grow something back and so he grew what he has
now....then he went on this really cool speal about facial hair and
stuff....it was really cool, i just can't really recall what he
said....

that's all i can recall as of right now.....i talked to them all for
a long time, and there is a lot more....so as it comes back to me
i'll post it....all and all, it was an amazing experience....the guys
were great, made bigger fans out of my friends and solidified the
fact that they're human like the rest of us, and what beautiful human
beings they are...

Thanks Eric!
