Well this is a little thing I'll keep adding to when I can.
For a start here are my top 10 favourite albums in no particular order.
Albums that have stood the test of time and that I find myself going back to time and time again without skipping a single song which given my low attention span is something to be proud of !

1

Men At Work - Business As Usual 1981 - the first album I ever heard. I can remember every lyric. It brings back memories of being 11 and just starting to get into music. Colin Hay is one of my favourite songwriters and I have purchased every album he has since done (5 of them), as well as the Men At Work "Live In Brasil" album last year.
Hopefully they or Colin will tour in 1999 and I'll be right up there in front !

2

Pandoras Box - Original Sin 1989 On a whim I first bought the 7" record for "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" in 1989 in my last week of the university year. (I also bought Nine Inch Nails "Pretty Hate Machine" on record at this time as well, it wasn't available on cd at that time in NZ).

The song blew me away. I bought the 12". Then another copy of the 7". Then the cassette. Then the double record. Then a few years later I managed to track down the rare cd (of which I've purchased about 5 copies which I have given away as presents). After repeated listens through the years I placed it on high rotation during 1995-1996.

Then Celine Dion released her version of the above song and the album is rereleased in the UK but not in NZ ! doh !

IF you like the type of songs Meatloaf sings but would prefer them sung in by a female, then this is the album for you.

3

Depeche Mode - Black Celebration 1986 an album that marked a turning point in my life. each song reflecting my mood at this time. I was 16 years old when this came out. I first heard it in 1989. Mode is my most favourite band ever, the amount of time and money I've invested in them is ahem...quite a lot !

4

The Adventures - Theodore And Friends 1984 twee uplifting music from a young irish band who never made it big. Always puts me in a good mood.

5

The Adventures - Sea Of Love 1986 more twee uplifting music from a young irish band who never made it big. But this album almost did it for them. Always puts me in a good mood !

6

Skinny Puppy - VIVISECT VI 1987 (?) *THE* album that opened my mind and ears and broke my conceptions of what is listenable music. I came to the realisation that you can always find beauty in ugliness. i.e. there is a positive/good side to everything, no matter how small it may be.

7

This Mortal Coil - Filligree And Shadow 1987 (?) quiet introspective album with quiet introspective singers singing old and new non-popular songs. I finally managed to buy all 3 albums on cd plus a rare album in early 1998 for $80 NZ.

My favourite ARTISTS whom I LOVE and RESPECT :

William Orbit - electronic mastermind. Been recording since 1984. With solo and group projects with Torch Song. Like other people who got into him it was through the remix he did of 'Supernature' for Erasure back in 1989. It basically blew us all away. It had such typical Orbit remixing effects as stereo left-right reverb sounds and sound effects which you wouldn't normally get with a normal remix in those days. It induced a great feeling of excitement !!!!
Since that fateful purchase I become a RABID Orbit fan. In the early days I would search through thousands of records in secondhand music stores and checking each and every remix credit on each and every 12" I was not familiar with (and I am familiar with a lot of them oo-er!)
Through this interest I've gotten to know some absolutely amazing people who are generous and as rabid as I am ! Since coming to the UK I've caught up with one of them and have since upped my Orbit collection by a fair leap !, expect a list soon.

Diane Warren - songwriter par excellence she wrote : I'd Lie For You And That's The Truth, Rhythm Of The Night, Don't Turn Around, The Arms of The One Who Loves You, Love Can Move Mountains, Because You Loved Me......

Jim Steinmann - songwriter par excellence wrote basically all of MeatLoaf's Hits
