“The View” taping was Neil’s first appearance to promote the release of his “As Time Goes By--The Movie Album,” as well as the kickoff of his 1998 -1999 World Tour. The studio audience, made up entirely of Diamond fans, attended the taping on October 19, 1998, and the ABC broadcast was aired on December 4, 1998. |

"The View" was a very special event for those fans in the studio audience. Fans who attended the taping of ABC's "The View" were still chattering about their experiences long after this show aired. This program was a fan's funfest! Audience interaction is what "The View" is all about, and as you can tell from these "views," Neil (and the audience) could not have been more delighted! |
Neil entered the set of "The View" singing "Unchained Melody" from the new album. Neil's singing was a sweet sound for any ear and was especially so for the many adoring fans who watched this performance. |
When asked by one of the hostesses, Neil admitted that his own favorite song is "Solitary Man," because "'Solitary Man' was my first hit and...there's something about being on the charts...that separates you from the mass of people knocking on doors and on the street. Suddenly you have your chance." |
Hostess Debbie Matenopooulos asked Neil, "Where do you get your inspiration?" Neil said that he gets his inspiration "from all over the place! Even the music from the movies sticks in my mind more than the movie itself." |
Questions from the Audience were answered freely by Neil.
From Pittsfield, MA: What is your greatest concert memory? |
From Long Island: If you had your choice, would you go forward in time, backward in time, or stay exactly where you are? |
Oh, those kisses during the commercial break!!!
Are Neil's lips as soft as a baby's behind? Just ask the Neil Nutz! They will tell you in a heartbeat that the answer is an unequivocal and resounding, "YES! YES! YES!" |
Neil presented prizes (big plastic diamond rings) to those who could name the Diamond tune the soonest! Twice during this segment, Neil stopped the show to lead the audience in "Sweet Caroline" and "Forever in Blue Jeans," two concert favorites! |
Once again, Neil took the microphone. This time, it was "As Time Goes By," sung flawlessly to a mesmerized audience. |
And the final words that made the show complete for many an audience attendee as well as viewers at home ...... "I DON'T WEAR EITHER!" (Neil's answer to the question: "Boxers or Briefs?") |
