It doesn’t matter if you are new to Ska or an old-time rude boy or girl. When it comes to the big names of the Ska scene, everyone can tell you that The Pietasters are one of the "Big Bands" of our time.

Originally from DC, The Pietasters began their career about 6 years ago, thanks to a friend’s suggestion, explains Todd Eckhardt, bass player of the band. A good suggestion that one was; it allowed The Pietasters to build a very successful career for themselves on a very long road that is still being constructed. Four albums form the steps that have helped them achieved the success and acceptance in the Ska scene. Their self-titled and debut album "The Pietasters", Olooloo, Strapped (live recording), and a limited edition titled Taster’s Choice, are the albums you should be looking out for, if you want to enjoy some fine Ska music from these guys.

Also, the Pietasters recently left Moon Ska Records for Hellcat, and their first release, Willis, has received great reviews.

Let’s go back to the band itself though. As guitar player Tom Goodlin comments, The Pietasters love to play live, "…it’s fun to play at different towns, get drunk and be delinquents from time to time…" According to them, their favorite places to play have been: DC, New York, Atlanta and Houston to name a few, but they also said that every place has a little something that makes it special.

Their future seems bright as daylight, and both Tom and Todd agree that they want to make it big in music. "There’s no way a band can survive if the scene doesn’t exist…" says Todd, refering to the way some people think that if ska goes mainstream it would just get ruined. Popularity is fine, as long as people remember where it all came from.

So, what now? Well, if you are new to the Ska scene, get to know this name: The Pietasters; and if you knew this already, then just keep skanking away with their excellent tunes!!!
