NYE2000
Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation
PHLORIDA

Welcome! I hope you were able to participate in the experience of an outdoors Phish New Year's Celebration. For the first time since Phish started performing annually on NYE, the event was held outdoors. Thanks to lots of planning and preparation, including 4 big outdoor events held in the summer for the last 4 years, NYE2000 was a big success... with the exception of traffic routes into the venue. Many people, including myself, sat in traffic for 12 hours or more just to get into the camping area... Alligator Alley, the 80 mile stretch of highway connecting Fort Lauderdale on the east coast to Naples on the west coast, literally became a parking lot.

I took a lot of pics, but I don't have a scanner. A lot of them came out really well and I wish I could share them with you. Perhaps someday, I'll be able to get them in here. For now, I have a few pictures I snagged off the net for your enjoyment. I wish I could give credit for these pics, but I've forgotten where I got them from. I saved them as I was surfing around one day and didn't make note of where I found them. This first pic is my favorite. It shows the true size of this event. Taken, I assume, from a helicopter, it shows the concert area and most of the camping area behind it... Remember, there were nearly 100,000 people there, if not more, to give you another idea of how big this thing was.

See what i mean!? hehe It was HUGE!!! And so very well planned. There's more camping on right and left of the picture. The campgrounds were sectioned out and given names such as Deer Creek, Hampton, Amy's Farm, etc. Gravel roads were built for easy navigation through the site. Each section was divided into numbered subsections and every other subsection had a sign designating it's number. It was very easy to get to and from wherever you wanted to go. :) And the map provided as you went through the "toll booths" were clearly drawn and allowed only those that really know how to party to get lost.
