ONCE UPON A TIME......

IN 1981 ....


• Brett & Mat started up a band called Geoff
  
• Then, the name was replaced as Suede & Elegant
  

  IN 1983 ....
  

• Bernard formed a band called SlowDive, teaming up with his brother.
  

  IN 1986 ....
  

• Brett met Justine, an architecture student at University College. She became the rythm guitarist for his band called Suave & Elegant.
  

  IN 1989 ....
  

• Bernard, being thrown out of London Mary College while studying History, replied to an ad in NME put up by Suave & Elegant to join the band. He succeeded after the first audition.
  
• They performed onstage using drum machine and eventually changed the name to Suede.
  

  IN 1990 ....
  

• Started playing gigs at pubs. However they were hated by the press due to what the press termed as 'unpleasant' performances and behaviour...
  
• An advert for a drummer was put up and ex-Smiths Mike Joyce was chosen.
  

  IN 1991 ....
  

• Justine left the band to concentrate on her degree but later formed a new band called Elastica with Justin Welch.
  
• Brett met Simon while the latter was selling tickets at ULU and, after much interaction, Brett asked Simon to join the band, in which he did.
  

  IN 1992 ....
  

• Suede's first gig of the year at New Cross Venue, teaming up with Fabulous, Adorable & Midway Still...slapping of arse & swivelling of hips finally became clear.
  
• Suede signed with Nude Records.
  
• Melody Maker dubbed them the Best New Band in Britain. While Brett discussed his "homosexual lyrics & sexual ambiguity", Bernard avoids interviews altogether.
  
• Suede started their first tour with Kingmaker. It was rumoured that sme fans ripped Brett's clothes while others screamed "fuck off faggots!"
  
• Video Clip Animal Nitrate was banned for showing 2 men kissing
  

  IN 1993 ....
  

• Suede's debut album original cover was banned as the picture was extracted without permission. Only headshots was taken.
  
• During the tours in Europe & US, it was rumoured that there were already tensions between Brett & Bernard.
  
• Suede won Mercury Music Prize in which they donated $25 000 for Cancer Research.
  

  IN 1994 ....
  

• In the US, Suede changed their band name to The London Suede.
  
• Bernard stormed out of studio and leave the guitar chords behind. The last sight of Berny in Suede.
  
• Richard joined the band after a successful audition.
  
• Richard made his live debut
  
• Damon shot insults at Brett for taking Heroin
  

  IN 1995 ....
  

• Brett hits back at Damon...saying he wasn't addicted to Heroin and that he was phobia of needles.
  
• Brett suffered a serious fall and performed onstage with a cane.
  
• Simon was bashed by Anti-Gay thugs when seen with Paul Codling outside a gay pub.
  

  IN 1996 ....
  

• A fanclub gig revealed Neil as new member
  

  IN 1997 ....
  

• Suede filmed the video Filmstar, calling 600 fanclub members worldwide for the first time.
  
• Suede's instruments were stolen in Boston during their tour in US. They'd lost a total of 35 000 pounds and were forced to perform with borrowed instruments.Mat and Richard's guitars are irreplaceable....
  
• Justine joined the Suede set at Reading.
