"Do you remember when VAN HALEN used to be a hard-core rock band?"
The razor edged vocals of David Lee Roth?
The aggressive beat kept by Alex Van Halen?
The devastating guitar work of Eddie Van Halen?
The rich backup vocals of bassist, Michael Anthony?
This VAN HALEN, the original VAN HALEN, was the greatest hard rock band of all time.
There was something unexplainable about VH. VH was one of those special bands,
the kind of band that recreates music. VH recreated rock music. Don't get me wrong,
there are a lot of good rock bands out there, but most of them are "rough around the
edges." VH, however, was so polished. Their sound was hard and mean,
yet it had this unequaled appeal to it. Words can't describe VH.
To really appreciate VH, you just have to listen.

Nevertheless, all good things must come to an end, and in 1985, David Lee Roth
left the band. VH would never be the same. The new VH, featuring Sammy Hagar
on vocals, was a softer VH. The mean, dark VH was gone. Their edge was gone.
In 1997, VH hired its third vocalist, Gary Cherone. Still, VH will never be the same.
Oh well, at least we have the music.
