Saturday,
June 10, 2000, Phil Volk was the honored guest at VoxFest 2000.
This was an intimate gathering of Vox amplifier and guitar fans.

Coming onstage in the late afternoon, Phil did a few great numbers with the host band (The NeaT) and also Keith Allison (another former Raider). Songs included "Hungry" and "That Old Time Rock and Roll". This song is one of my favorites that Phil does, as he really throws himself into the music and gets the whole audience involved!

Keith & Phil
(Show us the tape, Fang!)
After the first couple songs, Phil told the audience how the new rock and roll museum in Seattle had been after him for his famous "Fang bass," the Vox Phantom IV. He finally agreed to send it, but was a little sad about it. Then the VoxFest M.C. and host, Roger Tessier, came onstage and presented Phil with a surprise. Vox is about to begin production again of re-issue Phantom Bass guitars, and on behalf of Vox/Korg, Roger presented Phil with the pre-production model as a gift. They also said they were going to call it the "Fang" bass when it becomes publicly available. Phil was very moved by this gesture, and with family and fans present, was able to see how much appreciation there still is for him and his work.
Phil receives his honor...
A bass made in his name!
After the presentation, Phil took his new bass on a "test drive"...

Is it just me or is there something missing on that bass?
(Can you say "black electrical tape"?)
I want to
thank Jeff Viehmeyer for his kind review of the event. I hope you don't
mind that I took your words and added a few of my own. Even though I was
there, it was not easy to put it all into words. I am so proud of my dear
friend Phil and so flattered that he asked me to join him and his family to
share in this joyful event!
Anyone who knows what a long time "Fang fan" I am will understand how
much it meant to me! And the "caravaning to Riverside" was an
experience not to be forgotten! Thanks to Phil, Tina, Brian, Jessica,
Scarlett and Delores for a wonderful weekend.
