The story

It was Friday morning when I woke up from a dream: I had seen Metallica on a concert. Then I realized that, that day I would see The World Greatest Heavy-metal Group on Pukkelpop, Hasselt, Belgium. Metallica wanted to take a break from recording their new album"RELOAD"(that came out 18th November'97), so they gave a concert in Belgium(22th August'97), Germany(23rd August), England(24th).

Pukkelpop opened their doors at 12 PM. We went in, and we saw a lot of fire, Rammstein(a German heavy-metal,synthesizer group)was playing. At 2.50PM, we went to eat so we missed the group called: 3 coulers red. Than at 4.15PM the New York group Dog Eat Dog began with the words of a Dutch commercial of Beer: "Jupiler" Later they got in a big pile of shit because the sponser was Crystal. Dog Eat Dag was beside Metallica the best group there. When Marilyn Manson came up, just a few people responded to his songs.(banded in a few states in the US)Manson began to "sing"!(that was at 5.45PM)He was "singing": I love hate, I hate love" when the music suddenly stopped. Was it really a technical problem or did the crew of Pukkelpop thought the same as me: They suck!!! Marilyn Manson started to banging the micro against his breast. The security hade to calmdown Manson when he got of the stage. At 7.30 PM an American group called Bush came up. The audience was not really into that shit. A few people were singing with the singer"Garvin". Nobody responded to the words of the singer. But then the best of the evening: METALLICA CAME UP!!!!!!!!!!James Hetfield screamed :

"Welcome to Pukkel-"FUCKING"-pop. Metallica!! Belgium! Metallica! Belgium! So Fucking What!!!!!!!!!"METALLICA was so great that everybody was singing and screaming!!!!! After their first song, Jaymz Hetfield said: "We are supposed to be recording an album right now, but instead we are here playing in Belgium for our Dutch fans. "Master of Puppets", and everybody included me and my brother were singing;Master, Master!!!!

King Nothing came up and Kirk Hammett's solo in the begin was great. In the begin I was a little confused who Kirk was and who Jason was, because Kirk Hammett had cut his hair. When Jaymz was singing:"careful what you wish, careful what you say, ..."his eyes where turning around, I think that his was in a good mood. "We are here to play heavy music because we're METALLICA."

"Hey, that's sad!" Sad but true was the next song that Metallica played. I was so happy to see Metallica after a year(Poor Touring me 14th September 1996, was the last time up till than!)James , before he started to play a new song:"We've got only 90min. to play, so there isn't gonna be much talking, we're gonna play, some new shit!!" The song "Fuel" from Reload. It was the first time they played that song, live in Europe. "Hero of the day" came up, and the girl standing beside me had fainted, I think she was really happy to see Metallica.Or maybe she wanted Marlyn Manson.

"Hé, bitch, fuck you bitch, fucking bitch, shut up bitch!" I think that is obvious, Ain't my bitch(Load). Than the event of the day, the fav of a lot of Metallifreaks, including me, the song that's still in the top 100 in Belgium: " ONE "(YEAHHHH) Everybody was going crazy!!!!!!!!! Until it sleeps was next. It was just great! Bellz came up, "look at the sky, just before you die!" Wherever I may roam!? . Kirk gave a little solo, when a guy put the chair for Nothing Else Matters. Enter Sandman, Jaymz, Lars, Jason and Kirk starded to play. Jaymz: " now we're gonna play a song that we haven't play in a long while, that you can't guess: Stone Cold Crazy. "Die, Die, Die---->Creeping Death, and then was it the turn to a song of the album Master Of Puppets: Battery.

"Thanx all for coming, we will see you again on our tour. Bye!

In Germany they played another song:

"You don't wanna hear more. We're gonna play one. What do you wanna hear? No, shut up, 'cause I got something to say!!! "Last Carress.

In England they played Morotbreath

So, that was the end of a wonderful day for me and my brother. It was great!!! Hope to see Metallica soon on the Poor re-tourning me!!!!!!! ( written by An Verhoeven)
