ELTON JOHN
February 20, 1999
Chattanooga, TN

This was the start of a perfect week.  My friend Laura from PA was flying into town to stay for 5 days.  Scottie would come later that week.  On Saturday, we drove to TN to see Elton's third show on his Solo Tour.  We were to pick up tickets on the way from another fan who was unable to go.  The seats were aweful, nose bleed section, but we didn't care.  Just wanted to be there.  It was about a 3 hour drive, but didn't mind.  It gave us time to chit chat.  Once we got there, we went straight to the box office and upgraded our seats to 17th row.  Don't ask me what it's like to sit in 17th row cause we don't know either, haha.  We went straight to the front.  We were so siked to be there and we were there to have a good time.  We were the ONLY ones standing and dancing.  It looked like the audience was watching paint dry.  Security even came and told us we had to sit, could only stand in between the songs.  I couldn't believe it.  How do you sit during a concert?  We were not at the Oprea.  So, we attemped to do what we were told, but couldn't, lol.  We got up and danced during Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That.  We were jumping and singing and then Elton saw us and stood up and started to pound harder on the keys.  That got us going too.  GO JANET GO LAURA GO JANET GO LAURA!  See, Elton doesn't mind if we stand.  Before the show was over, we were in the front row.  Amazing!  Laura managed to get her program signed also.  That was just the beginning to this week.
Laura and I started the day early.  We got up to go to the local radio station because they announced Elton will be there for an appearance.  On the way there, we got on the radio.  They were asking if anyone knew anything about the song, Carla Etude, so Laura called on her cell phone and got on air.  To make a long story short, after arriving at the station, we learned Elton had cancelled :0(  We then went and did some errands.  When we walked into one of the stores, the woman working there walked up to us and said to Laura, "Good thing you're wearing that jacket, he'll be here any minute."  Laura was wearing a jean jacket w/Elton airbrushed on the back.  The woman then came back up to us and said, "Look, he's right there."  Elton was standing right in front of us.  Laura's mouth dropped to the ground and her face lit up brighter than a Xmas tree, lol.  She then walked up to him and asked Elton if she can show him something.  He said yes and she rolled her sleeve up.  Laura has a tattoo of Elton from the Made In England album on her arm.  Elton said, "OH MY GOD!" and had a huge smile on his face.  She then asked if he could sign a picture of her son on stage with Elton from Madison Square Garden.  There were a couple of other people there that reconized Elton and also got his autograph.  I had my program from the other night with me and he was nice enough to sign my favorite pic in the program...the one with the cherries and bananas on the walls.  When he was signing the program, I told him about security in TN and he said, "Pain in the ass, huh?".  Laura also got her jacket signed.  We then went outside and Laura started to call her friend in PA.  Elton walked out and Laura held her phone up and said, "Elton, say hi to Connie."  Elton yelled, "Hi Connie!"  On the way home, Laura called all of PA to tell them she just met Elton John, lol.

We hurried back to my house cause we had to meet Scottie who was driving in from NC.  After telling Scottie about the morning, her almost having a heart attack, I introduced Cajun pizza to Laura and Scottie, lol, (it wasn't burnt) and then got ready to go so we could go pick our tickets up.  Thank you Billy!  Then it was time to head to The Fox.  When we arrived, we walked to the side entrance and saw a couple of fans there.  We knew we were at the right place...Elton's entrance.  Security was really nice to us and kept them in stitches (Hey Poppi, lol).  About 40 minutes later, a black limo pulled up.  Elton has arrived.  He stepped out and started to walk by us.  After hearing our plead, he came over to us and signed Scottie's cd's.  We decided to let this be Scottie's moment and we stood back and took pictures.  Scottie cracked us up when she said in her very southern accent, "Elton, you look so good." Security then rushed Elton inside.

The three of us decided to walk back to the car to put Scottie's autographs in a safe place.  On the way there, we got stopped by Channel 11 news.  Once they saw Laura's jacket and then her tattoo, they were amazed and asked if they could film us.  We had our 15 minutes of fame!  More like 5 minutes of fame, haha.

The show was awesome, what else would you expect?  The crowd was very reserve, much like TN, but I think Elton got a better response at the end of each song.  Oh, and here's a note...don't EVER tell Laura to sit down during a concert.  I'll leave it at that, but boy did we have a good laugh, lol.  After the show, we went with the crowd to the side entrance.  I noticed Bernie standing just inches away from me and got a great pic of him as he walked by.  Elton came out, but just jumped into his limo and was off.  What a day!!  What a week!!  I have to thank Scottie and Laura for coming.  I had SO much fun and I hope we get to do it again.
