Richard Marx's career began in 1980 as a background vocalist on the Lionel Richie classic, "All Night Long," off his self-titled debut album.
In 1984, while providing background vocals for Kenny Rogers, he wrote "Crazy" and "What About Me," sung by Rogers, James Ingram and Kim Carnes, which charted to number one.
In 1987, Marx released his triple-platinum, self-titled, debut album which placed four top three hits, a first for any male artist's debut album. The album included "Endless Summer Nights," "Should've Known Better," "Don't Mean Nothing," and the number one, "Hold On To The Nights."
His follow-up, triple-platinum album, Repeat Offender (1989), charted to number one on the strength of the number one hits "Satisfied" and "Right Here Waiting," which completed a string of three number one singles. "Angelia," the release's third single climbed to number four, making Marx the first solo artist at the time to reach the top five with his first seven singles.
Marx's next two albums, Rush Street (1991) and Paid Vacation (1994), marked four straight platinum releases and included the Top 10 singles "Hazard" and "Now and Forever," which was a number one on the Adult Contemporary charts for 11 weeks.
His fifth release, Flesh and Bone (1997), provided high school students the opportunity to display their short stories, poems, photographs and artwork in the CD booklet and includes the singles "Fool's Game" and "You Never Take Me Dancing," with Earth, Wind and Fire's Maurice White providing background vocals.
Marx's latest release is a greatest hits collection, simply titled Greatest Hits.
Richard Marx at Pine Knob is part of the MGD Music Series.
