Thank you to Juliana for lending me the tape!

Brazilian MTV Interview in Florida Transcript

S=Sabrina, the lady who interviewed them. She also does the top 10 and the top 20 on MTV, usually.

I=Isaac, of course

T=Taylor

Z=Guess who....Zachary, otherwise known as Zac

The interview starts out with Sabrina in a crowd of girls. Hanson hasn't arrived yet. She's talking in portugese, and a map comes on screen, with an arrow pointing to Tulsa.

Then Sabrina is somewhere else, and they show Hanson walking out toward her. Taylor's holding a boquet of flowers. Zac, who is last in line, in talking to their father, who you can see really clearly for a second (considering the fact that the screen freezes, and you see a little arrow pointing to Walker, and words saying who he is...it would be hard not to see him!).

Ike is wearing a white shirt, with a blue shirt buttoned over it. He also has kaki pants on (that's the color my mom said it was, but I really have no idea what kaki is :) ).

Tay is wearing a brown shirt, sunglasses hooked on the neck of it, and tight blue pants. Maybe jeans, but it was hard to tell 'cause he was sitting down.

Zac is wearing his sunglasses for the whole interview, and has a dark purple shirt with army pants on.

They all have their hair pulled back, and they all look really good.

S= So, how did you decide to form the band?

T= It was pretty natural. I mean, the thing is, music has just always been a part of us. Doing music is just been what we've always done. I mean, our parents are both very musical so I guess could say we got it from them, but...

I= Yeah..

T= It, I mean, it was just always what we did.

I= Yeah, when we were really young we started listening to 50's and 60's rock and roll, and I think that really kind of inspired us to do music. Along with the fact that we love it. ::he laughs::

S= Whose idea was it to form the band?

T= Nobody really...It wasn't really anybody's idea. It was more that we all just started singing, and why not do it together. It was just kind of like, it happened. Nobody really said, 'now let's be the band'. It was just...

S= And your first experience playing professionally. Was it on the studio; recording, or on stage?

T= Definitely on stage. I mean, you gotta, you have to start on stage. And then you can put out...We, we performed, our first performance was at a local festival in Tulsa, and then after performing for about 3 years, we made our first record.

The screen show some clips from TT&Mon, of them singing that "no,no,no" part

I= And along that time we had also done a bunch of live records and things like that.

shows clip from TT&Mon of them shooting silly string at the audiance.

S= Do you plan to go Unplugged?

T= To do MTV Unplugged, you're saying?

S= Yeah. It would be great!

I= That'd be great if, if MTV wants us to do MTV unplugged, sure, why not. ::he sort of smiles and shruggs::

S= Sure. And is it the same feeling every time you go on stage, like, the first time...How is it? The sensation, the feeling?

T= Being on stage, being on stage is awesome. The rush of the crowd, the screaming, the...And just being able to do your music, that's fun. So, I mean, it's great.

Another clip from TT&Mon, first of that part w/ the Ike cam, then of them singing Man from Milwakee.

S= And what are your favorite artists? You first ::indicating Zac::.

T= Favorite artists...

Z= Well, we just, we like basically everything. We like, we like to say we like Aerosmith to En Vogue, and everything in between.

T= And from rock to R&B, all the way across.

another clip, first of Aerosmith singing, then En Vogue singing.

T= We listen to all kinds of things.

S= And you? ::indicating Ike::

I= Same thing, same thing.

T= We basically listen to a lot of the same music.

Commercial

When it comesb back from commercial Sabrina is back in that crowd of girls, talking about (in portugese) what Hanson is going to talk about. Then you see a clip of Hanson in that train station place in TT&Mon, plus a few other clips from that video. Then it goes back to the interview.

S= You've been traveling all over the world; what was the coolest place you've been to?

T= Uh, that's hard to say.

I= Ow. I mean, the thing is, the thing about just traveling everywhere is that you know,it's very different. Every country is very, very different, the culture, the language, everything about it is often quite different, so it's hard to really even compare.

S= Yeah, Yeah. And, you have a lot of fans in Brazil. When are you going to visit us? ::she laughs:: (you can also see Tay start to smile as she says this)

T= I, I, we really.. We're really looking forward to coming down. We actually, we lived in South America for about a year. When we were kids we lived in Equador, Venezuela, and Trinidad for over the period of a year, so we got..we,.. we've been- we haven't actually been to Brazil, but we look forward to touring and-

I= And possibly coming down, yeah, that'd be great.

T= We'd definitely like to.

S= What, what do you think of Brazil? What's the first image that comes to mind when you think of Brazil?

T= Well, uh...

I= The fact that they, uh, won the World Cup.

Image of a soccer player waving a trophy over his head, with Where's the Love playing in the background.

I= You guys won the World Cup, I guess, last, last World Cup.

S= Yeah, yeah, yeah.

T= I mean, I mean-

I= Great soccer players.

T= We don't, we don't know as much as...I mean, we've never been, so we just look forward to seeing whatever we can when we come.

S= Sure. And your, some of your fans in Brazil had some doubts about the braids you used on a video, if they were fake or not (Tay laughs). And I saw that you have... (camera shows Tay's rat tail, and Sabrina points at it).

T= Oh. Oh, yeah.

Z= They're all real!

T= They're real. They're all real. Zac obviously, obviously we have long hair and Zac just braids it. Sometimes. (Tay is holding back laughter as he says all this.)

S= Right. And in Brazil some guys, some boys get angry at, about the fan girls craziness and passion about bands like you. Did you have this kind of feeling, before becoming famous, about other bands?

I= Uh, I mean, you know, I guess you could say we were really caught up in doing our own music, so, so that wasn't really, uh, something that was going through our minds. I mean,- (he's chuckling as he says this)

T= I, I can see how, I can see how guys would get ticked off, but I mean, that's just...We're out there doing music not, not just for girls or just for guys, just for everybody, so it's not- (Tay is also sort of laughing as he says the first part of this).

I= I mean, the thing is, we are, we're the band, we play music, and we want everybody to enjoy it. I mean, it's, it's not, like Tay said, it's not just for guys, it's not just for girls, it's for everybody, and everybody that can enjoy it, you know, we hope they will.

S= And what would you say to those guys, jealous guys?

I= I'm sorry, hey-

Z= We'd say, 'If you don't like the music, don't tell us about it'!

T= No! Rock on! That's what I've gotta say. Rock on.

I= Yeah, exactly.

S= And your performance at Jenny McCarthy's, Jenny McCarthy's show, playing acoustically, is a great success in Brazil. How, how was it to play there?(By the way, we didn't get the show, just that one performance of MMMBop, which MTV Brazil made it to a kind of video you could request.)

I= Uh, well we- like Tay said- we do a lot of, we do acoustic stuff when we perform, so, it's very cool. We really enjoy it.

Shows clip of them singing MMMBop from the Jenny McCarthy show.

I= And, you know, I, I think that it kind of gives you a chance to really, to really kind of be in touch, I guess, with the, just, just singing more. So then, all the instruments, I mean, you've got an acoustic guitar, you've got a tambourine, the shakers, I mean, that's it.

T= That's it. And it's not, it's, it's really kind of-(He just cuts off his sentence.). The way we started was acoustic, or actually a cappela; no instruments at all, so it's kind of, I guess you could say, going back to your roots almost. 'Cause that's, that's how we began. Just singing.

Clip from TT&Mon of them singing MMMBop in that empty theater (well, there were a few people, but you couldn't see them, and I think they were part of their group).

S= And how is your daily routine?

T= Our daily routine is not really a routine. It changes.

I= It changes all the time. Yeah.

Z= It's not like we do this, we do this everyday. We just do all different things.

T= Yeah. Our scheadule's crazy.

S= And what about school, and studies, with all this work to do?

Z= We just...We homeschool. Our parents teach us. So, we just end up, you know, in the morning you have to do it. And, you know, at night when you go back to the hotel, if you didn't finish in the morning, then you gotta. You know, you just, you have to do school.

S= And the girls. Do you have time for them?

Tay laughs.

T= Well, I mean, look where we are now. We're here playing music, there's lots of girls...(he laughs again).

I= Yeah. I mean, people ask us if we have, like, girlfriends or anything like that, and really, if we had girlfriends they'd probably hate our guts, because we're never, we'd never be around. So...

S= And in your little free time what's the most thing that you like to do? Your favorite thing to do?

T= Play music. We do, we play music in our free time, also.

S= Besides playing music. (She did a little swatty thing on Tay's arm when she said this.)

T= Um...Zac?

Z= Play music (he laughs)? I mean, we play music, we get on the internet. We play video games. We-

T= Rollerblade. All-

Z= Paintball...

T= Paintball. Um, you know, you do what, you just hang out with your friends. Anything that anybody does, I guess.

Clip from TT&Mon of them in Sega World, and a few other places.

S= How is the sensation of recieving two MTV European awards?

T= It's-

I= That was pretty incredible. I mean, we, we really didn't expect it at all. We were extremely surprised, and, and just,-

S= I saw him (indicating Zac)-

I= great. We were so excited.

S= I saw him. "You love me, you love me". It was great!

Clip from MTV European awards of when Zac yells that.

Commercial

Comes back, she talks a bit, then you go back to the interview.

S= What's the most amazing thing, or strange thing that happened to you since you became famous. Do you know? Something?

Tay holds out the microphone to Ike, who remains silent. They both look blank.

I= AAA..T= You know, there's really not one particular thing. I think it's more just the whole experience of all the fans and seeing you song going to number one, and seeing the success of the record, it's just... It's all exeded anything we could have expected, so what's happened is amazing.

clip from TT&Mon of the charts

S= Do you enjoy shooting videos? Do you (to Zac)?

Z= Yeah. It's cool. It's fun to. Because you get to create the video, you get to...you get to look at the sets, and you get...Yeah. It's really fun.

S= And do you contribute with the ideas for the video?

Z= Yes. Definitely.

S= Oh, yes? And you too, guys?

T= Oh yeah. We're, I mean, we're very involved in all our video so far. So...

I= Yeah.../p>

T= You just put out ideas, and then you work with the director.

Clip from the I Will Come to You video

T= On this third video, we got a new director, from the last two videos. His name's Peter Christopherson. Tamera Davis produced the last two. So it has a different feel than the last two videos.

S= And a book and film is going to be about your lives?

T= Um, there's-

I= There, there was a rumor going around that there was going to be a movie, and it's not true. There's a long form video, though, a home video, that you can buy. But that's-

T= It's a ninety minute video of, like, all the home video footage that we've taken and just gone around, you know, everywhere basically. And there's also a live concert, and behind the scenes from the MMMBop and Where's the Love videos.

Clip from TT&Mon of behind the scenes of the Where's the Love video.

S= What about the Christmas album?

T= That- (he nods slightly and hold the microphone out to Ike)

I= Well, we co-produced the Christmas record with Mark Hudson, who we wrote songs with on Middle of Nowhere; we wrote Minute Without You, (note from me= I swear Isaac sounded like he was saying "new tatoo". I actually had to get the cd cover to look through the songs and see which ones Mark Hudson co-wrote) Where's the Love, and Lucy with him. So we co-produced the record with Mark, and uh, it's all kinds of older songs, I mean-

Z= It's just basically our favorite Christmas songs.

T= Yeah. Christmas songs that we're into. And also three original ones that we wrote for the album.

Clip of the cover of the cd, with one of the songs playing in the background.

S= Are you going to be on the Scream 2 soundtrack? Right?

T= That's a song, that's- well, we can't tell the song yet, (he says this in a cute way, not rude) but-

Zac tries to say something

I= Well, no, actually,-

Zac is so eager to talk that he grabs the microphone, and pulls it over to him, with Tay still holding it.

Z= That is actually the song that is on the I Will Come to You single.

Clips of some pics from a magazine of Scream 2, with Cried playing in the background.

S= Some people compare you to the Jackson 5. What do you think about it?

I= I mean, the Jackson 5 were extremely succesful, great band, I mean, they sang incredible, the songs were great. I mean, to be compared to a group that was that sucessful, that, you know, is pretty amazing. I mean, they're, they were very cool and we do admire them. Their music was great, and we do listen to it. So...

T= Yeah. I think to be compared to a group like that, that was that succesful is, is a great comparison (he meant that he was happy about the comparision, in a modest way). So, I mean, we, we couldn't possibly expect to be that successful.

Cip of Jackson 5 singing the ABC song.

S= What's the, what's the most boring thing of being famous? Besides interviews.

T= It's pretty exciting. It's pretty fast paced life.

Z= I don't know. Sleeping?::They all laugh::

S= What's the best thing?

T= The best thing? Ah, just the whole experience. Playing live is incredible. Just the energy of the audiance, and also just work in the studeo is fun. It's-

I= Yeah, we really enjoy being in the studeo and everything about...oh, I mean, I think we just enjoy the opportunity to get to play our music and get to do something that we really love to do as a job. I mean, that's really all that you can say. That all you can hope for is to be able to do something that you love to do as a career.

S= And do you have any plans for the future, or is it to early to know?

T= We're definitely to the future. Hopefully we'll be able to do this as long as possible-

S= Besides the music?

T= I mean, as long as possible. We just want to do the music as long as possible, and then, whatever else comes along, movies, producing other people's records, writing songs, that's...You know, we, I think we need to start out Hanson, and then we'll branch from there.

S= Now I want to show you a letter from you fans, Brazilian fans, from Curitiba, that it's a city. This is only one letter (She hauls this box onto her lap, and you can see a stack of papers inside).

I= All that?

S= All that! Two girls from Curitiba-

I= It's actually amazing because we've gotten a lot of letters from Brazil, and, that are very similiar to that in-

S= Really?

I= Well that they...I hate for you to get it all out, we really can't take it, but it's...

Z= We can take it to-

S= Look, it's like-

They all start talking at once, which makes it pretty much impossible to understand.

T= That's amazing!

S= It's amazing. Kilometers. (Then she says something in Portugese, at the tv, to the girls that wrote that letter. Something like 'you see' or 'so there' or something. It doesn't translate into English, I think. Then she goes back to English, still talking to those girls). I'm giving them your letterb(Zac was staring at her as she spoke Portugese).

I think there's a short break here, because you see the letter spread over all of their laps. Zac has the end, and is folding it after he sees each page :) .

I= We're going to have to put this in the box because I'd hate to lose-

T= We don't want to break, anything to break.

S= Ok, guys. Thanks a lot for this interview, and I hope you got to Brazil. You have a lot

of fans (and then some).

All of them= Ok (except Tay, who says awesome at the same time). Thank you very much.

You then see Sabrina back in the crowd of girls, who scream "Hanson!", and then stare at her as she goes on in portugese about how great they are. Then you see them on stage singing Madeline. Then the screen goes back to the interview for a second, where they are now standing up next to each other.

Z= You rock.

The interview ends.
