Tulsa, Tokyo, and the Middle of Nowhere

The video starts out with the Hansons singing "Thinking of You". Taylor's voice is a lot deeper singing this than on the CD. I was shocked the first time I heard it, but it sounded good. The thing that I like about this performance is the sort of piano solo that Tay does in the middle of the song. He looks really happy while he’s playing.

The video then goes to them talking about how they got started. After that it goes to the Paramus Park Mall performance. The fans are completely hysterical, and Hanson looks overwhelmed by the reaction they’re getting. They also seemed sort of concerned about getting through the crowd. They look happy too, though. The video goes to them talking about this performance, and how surprised they were at the turnout. Isaac jokes about how they thought that "Omigosh! Sear’s is having a sale!" when they saw how many people were at the mall. They also mentioned that fans ripped a hole in Tay’s shirt, and that Zac got stranded in the crowd for a moment, until someone pulled him out of it. They don’t say who "somebody" was. After that Zac grabbed the back of Tay’s shirt and followed him through the crowd. When they got into the van, the girls started pounding on the windows, and Zac tells everyone to lock their doors.

Then the scene shifts to the making of the "MMMBop" video. They tell us what they’re going to do in the video, and then they start filming the different scenes. They also show when a black cat crossed the road toward the crew, and Zac bent down to pet it. Then they tell us how they came up with MMMBop (as if anyone doesn't already know) . You can see some guy reading a book or something in the background while they’re telling us, and there’s someone sitting on the couch next to him at first.

They talk about how it felt to become famous, and then we’re taken down into the "world famous Hanson garage". We’re shown Tay drawing on one of the walls, which is already covered with drawings.

They go to France, and we see them listening to MMMBop on the radio in France. We’re shown a bunch of different scenes of them in France, including Zac eating ice cream. They also show a interview in a French radio station that Hanson did. There’s this blond lady interpreting for them, and she talks at the same time as them, only a split second or so behind. They show some more shots of them around France, and then they go to Milan, Italy (right near where I was born!). The video shows shots of them in various places around Milan, and then they get interviewed by a Italian radio station. The guy interviewing them is trying to speak English, but failing miserably. I didn’t understand most of what he said, Italian or English. Then the video goes back to Hanson talking about how strange it is to do radio in all these different languages, and how you have to really concentrate on what you’re saying so that you don’t get confused by the interpreter talking at the same time.

They go to England next. Ike is pretending to be some kind of announcer, using his fist as a microphone, and his father cuts him off as he’s doing this this and you get a quick shot of his family behind Ike, walking away. Ike had been walking backwards. Mrs.Hanson’s hair is hanging down her back in a braid, almost to her knees. She’s holding one of the younger Hanson siblings, who appears to be sleeping. It might be Mackie, but I’m not sure. Then you see them waving down a taxi, then they’re in the taxi, and then in a park acting silly. After that you see them in various brief shots around London.

After that the video shows them in a store. Zac is buying those yellow boots he wears sometimes.

Then they’re getting interviewed by some blond lady who has a really strong English accent (so strong that I didn’t understand some of the things she said). Tay picks the questions out of a plastic bag. They’re written on balls. After reading one of the questions, he puts the ball in his mouth and spits it out in the direction of the camera. Zac then shoves his face in the camera and whispers what sounds like "Do I know you?".

Then Tay picks another question, and starts to read it. He stops when he reaches the word reckon, and rereads the question in different English and country accents. He’s doing this because the question has the word "reckon" in it. Everybody there is laughing, including the blond lady. Taylor seems to choke back a laugh before actually answering the question.

Next they go to Segaworld. They play video games ( Tay and Ike look very serious when they’re shooting at the screen), and Tay gets on this spinning ride that leaves him barely able to walk when he gets out. The video shows them at a train station after that, and you get another brief glimpse of their family in the background. Tay has a baggage cart, and he speeds toward the camera with it, making a horrible face at the same time. Jessica’s hair is really blond.

Then the video once again shows a bunch of different scenes really fast. It settles on Isaac talking about photo shoot #3 (or is it #2? or #4?). The Hanson’s pose for a bunch of different photo’s, and then they talk about the photo shoots. The guys sort of make fun of the photographers. The photographers do seem kind of stupid, as we see later as we’re shown shots of the photographers going "love the camera" and "yeah, yeah, yeah," and other ridiculious comments.

They go to Canada next, about to give a concert. They tell us that the crowd is 140 decimals high, which is louder than any other concert ever (the 'Scream Squad' strikes again!), and how they have to wear earplugs. They go out and perform 'Man from Milwaukee', during which Tay interupts Zac’s megaphone solo with two "come on" comments. Zac sends Tay a nasty look after that, so Tay tells the audiance to "give it up for Zac Hanson". The audiance screams even louder than before after that.

After that they talk about performing live, and how much they enjoy it. The video shows quick scenes from a bunch of different performances.

One thing all these shows have in common is screaming girls. In one scene Hanson is shaking hands with different girls, and as they’re about to touch this girls’ hand, she shrieks and yanks her hand back. Not the usual reaction, probably.

After that the video goes briefly to them recording, them to them talking about recording. Then recording again. Then talking again. Then recording again (are you noticing a pattern here?). This time the song is "Look at You". They have a brief argument where Zac accuses Isaac of being late, and Isaac blames Zac, while Tay tries to keep the peace. They completely ignore, him though.

Then they’re back to talking again, this time about how interested they are in making movies. They show us the documentary that Ike did, about the Redwoods.

The documentary starts out with Ike introducing himself as "Joe", the tour guide. Mac is the young cave dweller, who is busy running back and forth "beating trees", and Zac is the "retarded one". Then you see Zac filming Ike filming Zac (get it?). They show Grandpa Redwood, and Zac gives us some useful facts about redwoods, with Tay helping him out when he can’t remember. Zac also tells us how "lots and lots of trees together equal.....big trees!". Then the documentary wraps up, with "Joe" turning into "Billy Bob", and Zac becoming Joe. All of the talking in this documentary is done in a thick country accent.

When they film the "Where’s the Love" video, they explain how they found the set, and also talk about how it’s actually harder than it looks to film. This is actually a cute part of the video. Then we’re shown some scenes while they’re actually filming, and then we’re shown the second version of the video. I like the second version better, but it might just be that I’ve seen the first version so often that I’m sick of it.

After the filming of the "Where’s the Love" video we move on to Hanson does stupid stuff. They do some stupid stuff. Then there’s Hanson does stupid stuff part 2. One of the things that they do here is get strapped to this thing that carred them up far, far into the sky and then dropped them. Cool.

Then we go back to the Beacon (at least I think that’s where it is), and find Ike and Zac trying to rap (key word is trying ) while Tay watches them. They tell us how important harmonizing is, and sing a little just to demonstrate.

Then we get to see Cindy Crawford go shopping with them, and then go eat with them. When the boys are discussing meeting her later, they all seemed really thrilled, and rave about how great she is.

Then they go to Japan( they even go there before coming to Brazil!). The one thing that doesn’t change is the hysterical screaming they encounter wherever they go. We’re shown a bunch of clips of interviews they did while they were there, and clips of them singing. Then we see them introducing themselves at a bunch of different places ( the "hi, I’m Isaac, I’m Taylor, I’m Zac, and we’re Hanson" introduction), and to wrap up that part of the video they introduce themselves to us and tell us we’re watching Hanson: the video.

Then they go sightseeing, then to more interviews and press conferences and singing. Including the famous Hard Rock Cafe incident. We’re shown a clip of Hanson running for their lives from the crowd of fans that is hot on their heels. They talk about it a little, and Tay says that even though it could have turned out badly you have to appreciate the craziness. Ike makes a funny comment in this part as well.

After that they go to Australia, and do the same thing they did in Japan. More hysterical girls. One thing that is different is that you get to see Hanson taking some time off and hiking through caves and stuff. They looked happy and relaxed. I think they’ve left Australia by then, because Tay has sweet rolls (or something) and we see Tai dancers. The whole family wrapps up that part by going to the monkey forest.

We go back to the Beacon, where they’re all hyped up about the concert they’re giving there the next night. Especially Tay, since he won’t let anyone else get a word in edgewise. At the concert the first thing they do is jump out and spray the crowd with silly string. The first song that they play is “Where’s the Love. I didn’t really like the ending, since they just repeated "Where’s the Love" a bunch of times. I do think it sounded good when they said it without the instruments once. The next song they played was "A Minute Without You", which actually happens to be my favorite song. Tay goofs and says "how many days" instead of "how many hours", but he corrects himself in the next verse. It sounded really good. They finished off with "MMMBop".

Then they’re back in that room with a couch. Ike tells how close they are while Tay and Zac beat each other up in the background. Tay wins, and goes on to toss Ike out of his chair. He then sits down and continues to tell us what best friends they are. Zac is beating up Ike in the background, and eventually comes up to Tay and tosses him out of the chair. While Zac is talking there are fighting noises in the background, and then suddenly both Tay and Ike appear on either side of Zac and throw him over the couch.

Then Tay starts to play the closing music, and we go to the Beacon theater where Zac is flipping the lens cap up and down. Then a brief comment from an interview when they were young, and Zac informs us that the video is over.
